OT (...I think?.....) Repainting DIECAST Model Car....

Now I'm pretty sure that repainting a Diecast model is a heck of a lot different than repainting a McFarlane figure, but I think that there are similarities. Long story short, for anyone who does watch the show "Initial D" I just bought off of eBay a 1/24th scale model of the 86 Trueno, and I want to repaint the hood of the car to a "carbon-fiber" color, as in the show currently, the car has a carbon-fiber hood. I also think the rims of the car now are a different color as well in the show, but my current mental image of it doesn't remember if it is so.

So anyways, I dunno if anyone here has ever done such a project, but I was hoping maybe if anything someone could point me in the right direction of how to go about doing this. I'm assuming it would be better to airbrush the color on rather than using a standard spray can, but then again I don't know if that's all I need. Should I apply a coat of primer to it too? I dunno.

Help?
