Re: Back In The Swing: Cleveland Indians Franchise
![]() **2 Game Series** Game 1 ![]() ![]() ![]() Tribe Muscles Out First Win Kansas City, MO (AP)-- Both teams came looking for their first win here in this game. The game started off pretty slow as both pitchers looked pretty good. The Royals struck first and kept a 2-0 lead for a couple innings before Cleveland tied it up. Kansas City knocked in 2 more runs in the 6th. Westbrook would pitch the final out of the inning after a big two out hit and call it day after that. Westbrook went six solid innings give up 3 earned runs, but only striking out 1. The game took a turn in the Top of the 7th as Clevelands bats came alive. A flurry of big hits came in, including a big fly from Travis Hafner and a go-ahead 2 run homer from Jhonny Peralta. The Indians would later extend their 1 run lead to 4 in the Top of the 9th scoring 3 runs to make it 8-4. The bullpen proved to be very good again for Cleveland, as Betancourt would pickup the win and Cabrera, usually known as the setup man, came in for the 8th and 9th and picked up his first save of the year. The bullpen pitched 3 innings of shutout baseball. Game 2 ![]() ![]() ![]() Cleveland Wins In 10! Kansas City, MO (AP)-- This was a great game all around. Both pitchers were fantastic pretty much all game. Cliff Lee of Cleveland faced off against Jorge De La Rosa of KC. De La Rosa started of the game by striking out the first 5 hitters for Cleveland. He was mixing his pitches up great and just seemed almost unhittable. Jhonny Peralta, who had a tremendous series, put an end to Jorge's streak with a 2 out double in the second. Besides a Travis Hafner homerun, there was really no fireworks until very late in the game. After getting Mike Sweeney out on nearly a walk-off homerun and giving up a single to Mark Teahen, Cabrera came into pitch in to pitch for Cleveland in the bottom of the 9th with the game tied at 2-2. Cabrera got out of the inning and put the game in the hands of the Indians' bats. Cleveland 3rd baseball, Andy Marte, led off the inning with a double and Grady Sizemore did his job and bunted him over. Cleveland was trying to ball small ball for the win. Trot Nixon came up to the plate next and tried to drive the ball to the outfield to score the run, but found himself rounding the bases after he launched a huge homerun out to right-centerfield. Travis Hafner followed that up, hitting back-to-back homeruns. Cleveland scraped together 1 more run and finished that game with that score, 6-2 in 10 innings. Cleveland, now (2-1) has their home opener coming up with a big game VS the Chicago White Sox (3-1). Youngster Jeremy Sowers (0-0) will face off against Gavin Floyd (0-0) |

Re: Back In The Swing: Cleveland Indians Franchise
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Disappointment In Home Opener Cleveland, OH (AP)-- It was a rough day for the Tribe in opening day at Jacobs Field. The White Sox (4-1) took control of the game from the beginning and flexed their muscles. Gavin Floyd (1-0) pitched great for Chicago. His stretch went an out deep in the 8th until he walked Nixon and then Hafner hit his 6th homer of the young season. Young, hopeful pitcher Jeremy Sowers came out on the hill for Cleveland today and he wasn't terrible, but definitely not what they need from him. Sowers only lasted 5 innings as his arm became very tired. He gave up 3 earned runs in the outting. The story of the day was Paul Konerko. Konerko had 3 hits including 2 big flys. The Tribe will host two more games at home vs Kansas City and Baltimore before heading out the Chicago for a 2 game series and chance to fight back to the top of the division. The next two games are huge for the Indians. Paul Byrd will take the hill for Cleveland against the Royals as he hopes to be the first Indians pitcher to record a win. So far Cleveland starting pitchers have recorded two no-decisions and two losses. We will see what the next few days brings us. |

Re: Back In The Swing: Cleveland Indians Franchise
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Borowski Blows Two Run Lead In 9th Cleveland, OH (AP)-- After a tough defeat at home VS the White Sox, the Indians looked to beat up on Kansas City who they have beaten twice already this season. The bats were again not alive for the Indians this game. Starting pitcher, Paul Byrd was very effective all game for Cleveland. He came out before the 8th inning as Cabrera came in and shut down the Royals for an inning. The game was 3-1 in favor of Cleveland entering the top of the 9th. Joe Borowski came in for his first save opportunity of the season. After getting the first two batters out, Kansas City launched back to back home runs and left the Indians speechless. The game would head to extras. Back to back doubles in the 11th for the Royals brought home what ended up being the winning run. Cleveland batted Nixon, Hafner, and Martinez in the bottom of that inning and couldn't even scrape up a hit. Cleveland has now fallen to (2-3) and will take on Baltimore (4-1) before heading to Chicago to face the division leading White Sox (4-1) for a two game stand. *Check back tomorrow evening for a special edition of "This Week In Baseball"!* |
