The Official "How to Pitch" Thread
Okay, so I'm brand new to 2k sports games in general, and 2k baseball in particular. I've just picked up 2k7 baseball and am learning the ropes. I've figured out how to pitch, but the subtleties of it are escaping me.
So I'm starting this thread for you guys with more experience to post what you do to make your best pitches. For example, is it better to let the pitch meter load up all the way (to the point of vibrating), or is it better to be more controlled? Why does the break point seem to jump all over the place? Like I'll have it in one spot when I start the windup but when he releases its move to a completely different part of the plate. Is there a trick to getting it to stay where you want? Basically, I'd like for you guys to use this thread to talk about what you do to pitch effectively. It'll help all of us get more out of the game. Looking forward to reading everyone's tips... |

Re: The Official "How to Pitch" Thread
Well I just got pitching down pat today. The first thing you need to know is the different pitches and their break points after you know that is you position the cursor where you want the ball to break. After you position the cursor then you need to make the target close over each other, and then you should be able to throw a perfect pitch. Use this method when on the pay-off pitch it works most of the time and I got the pay-off pitch achievement because of this, hope this helps you

What do you mean by "make the target close over each other"?

Re: The Official "How to Pitch" Thread
Just remember that when you aim the pitch (break point), this is where the pitch starts, not where it will end up. For example... if you throw a curve & aim at the top right part of the strike zone, it will break into the heart of the plate (so stay away from that). Also the more power you put behind a pitch, the more break it will have. The trick is to know how each pitch breaks. Using this strategy I have struck out 10 batters (in 8 innings) w/ El Duque & 9 (over 9 innings w/ Tom Glavine) on All-star (w/the slider set to 80 on Computer AI). Hope this helps, if you have any further questions, just post them here (I would say hit me up for a game, but my 360 died & I don't know when I'll get it back)

Re: The Official "How to Pitch" Thread
In you guys' experience, when's the best time to release the button when you're building up your pitch, and when are you supposed to tap it again? JPG called it "closing the target" but I'm not sure what he means.

Re: The Official "How to Pitch" Thread
If you want your pitcher to last 7+ innings, I'd release it just before it starts to vibrate. However changing speeds is essential to good pitching, but for the majority of your pitches I'd stick to releasing it just before it vibrates.
By closing the target, I believe he means that the target begins to shrink and the optimum time to press the button is at the exact time it completes it's shrinking. If successful it should give you a quick flash. |

As it gets smaller and becomes the same size as the ball, hit the button again to throw it right on the mark. |

Re: The Official "How to Pitch" Thread
a quick fixer upper for those having issues with picthing is watch what your cather asks for , for example colors surround the pitch the AI wants you to throw, blue highlights for a ball & red high lights for a strike... As for how to picth its a bit hard to explain because every one has their ways of pitching. I like to try and get ahead of the batters as fast as possible because the deeper into the count you get with the CPU the better their chances are of hitting the ball..
I would say follow what your cacther wants in terms of location some times they do ask for the wrong pitches but their location is usally pretty good.. also if you have the insiders edge use the D-pad to cycle through your opponents attributes and get a feel of what they like and what they dont like in terms of pitches, it helps a whole lot and adds alot to the pitching game.. If your worried about how much effotr to use think in terms of a real picther in your in a jam you gonna have ot step it up a notch so add a litel juci to all of ur pitches ( let your cirlce grow larger then usual) and vise versa where situation only call for a normal arrangements in pitching.. Also note that certain teams are harder to picth against then other.. the KC roylas are alot easier then the cards or yanks so you wont have to put as much effort into your pitches because there hitters arent that good versus the yanks where u mite need to add a bit extra in juice through out the game leading your starter to leave the game earlier then your used to.. |
