MLB Offseason Thread
thought i might make one universal thread for offseason moves. they're going to start coming pretty quick probably
-Yankees traded Jaret Wright to Baltimore for Chris Britton, and the Yanks will pay 4 out of the 7m owed next season. -Aramis Ramirez opted out of his current contract with the Cubs but signed a 5 year deal today with them -Kerry Wood agreed on a 1 year deal with the Cubs also |

apparently the Red Sox have the top bid for Matsuzaka
if so, that's great. the money they throw at him for the bid doesnt count against the tax threshold so its free money basically. we could use his arm more importantly. and we block other teams from signing him this year if we don't reach an agreement. plus, we can trade the rights to deal with him to another team that wants him more. i think its a great move |

Not bad for a guy that could be had in the 9th+ rounds in most fantasy drafts last season.

![]() ESPN ranks the top 40 free agents and Zito is 15th, behind other pitchers like Meche, Lilly, and Pettitte. They say he's got the stuff of a 3rd or 4th starter, but the reputation of a 1st or 2nd. After saying he's never had a major injury, and has pitched in 210+ IP each season in the league, they still rank him behind a guy like Ted Lilly and his career 4.60 ERA and .500 win percentage. I can see Meche being decent if he can find consistency, but Ted Lilly is 2 years older than Zito and we've probably already seen his best and it's certainly not Cy Young stuff. Even Lilly at 4 million isn't a better deal than Zito at 10. |
