Dodgers reach agreement with Schmidt

Schmidt, 33, chose the Dodgers over the Cardinals and Mariners, both of whom were seeking to add him to the top of their rotation.
With the Dodgers, he will be reunited with general manager Ned Colletti and trainer Stan Conte, both of whom previously were with the Giants.

The addition of Schmidt likely will increase the chances of the Dodgers trading right-hander Brad Penny for a hitter, even though the Dodgers lost free-agent right-hander Greg Maddux to the Padres on Tuesday.

Schmidt went 11-9 last season with a 3.59 ERA, pitching 2131/3 innings. He has won 10 or more games in each of the past six seasons, including 17 in 2003 and 18 in '04.

He is 127-90 lifetime with a 3.59 ERA.

They also are in talks with getting Luis Gonzalez. It's a great move, especially for only 3 years. Hopefully he can stay healthy though.

I'm gonna flucking knee Bill Bavasi in the balls multiple times, then throw his head into a septic tank. What a terrible day for Mariners fans. Jason Schidt wants to come to Seattle, Bavasi sits on his ass and goes after guys like John Thomson. Then Bavasi trades Rafael Soriano, one of the best relievers in the league and only 27, for Horacio Ramirez who is a 4th starter. I'm flucking pissed right now.

kill the dodgers! schmidt could of gone to anybody but them, that pisses me off. and kill the giants for letting him go there. i love the giants though
