[360] - NASCAR Impressions
I picked up NASCAR 2008 yesterday and it is excellent. The graphics will not stun you but there is a ton of small details that are impressive. The wrecks are insane.
The career mode is extremely deep with plenty that will keep even the most casual racing fans busy. Whether you are a hardcore NASCAR fan or even a casual fan, this game is worth checking out. The demo is decent but demos don't provide the real feel of how deep the game actually is. |

Re: NASCAR Impressions
So the career mode is good? The 1up review thought the career mode sucked.

Re: NASCAR Impressions
The controls remind me of NASCAR '98 and how it was a bitch to keep off the wall even at Daytona. Then again maybe I'm just used to NR 2003.

It does suck. you have to go through like 15 other things to be able to race in the 500. For instance, you have to do 10 challenges to get your superspeedway licesnce, then you have to race i think 2 races and get atleast the desired finishing spot, when you do that then you can race in the 500. personally i like how in the past..like 05, and 06 (didnt play 07) how you worked up through the modifides then trucks, busch than up to cup. __________________

Re: NASCAR Impressions
I think the controls will suck until you play with a steering wheel. I am going to stop by Gamespot next week to check out their wireless wheels. Does anyone have one? I've heard the force feedback is screwed up in NASCAR 2008, but you can turn that off on the wheel. Is this true?

Re: NASCAR Impressions
You might also consider the Logitech wheel. While it is wired, I am very happy with it. I went with it rather than the M$ wheel because it was significantly less expensive and Logitech has been specializing in peripherals for years. The only other negative is it doesn't come with a setup to rest the wheel on your lap. However, it's a quality product.
I bought the wheel for Forza and it does make a huge difference in simulation racing games (with the exception of "Dirt" which I never got the controls) For arcade type games (eg. Burnout) I go with the controller. |

Re: NASCAR Impressions
I use it (I find it helpful) but I believe if you don't plug it in you don't get the force feedback but the wheel will still function otherwise (I'd double check that.) Also, you can often adjust the force feedback in the game software.
