Andre Wilson: Rookie to superstar

Andre Wilson, the former freshman phenom out of Georgetown University, was severely injured in a car crash a couple years back. This prevented him from finishing his season, thus ruined his chances at playing in the NBA. Or so he thought.

For the last year, he has been playing in the streets, trying to get some attention to get another shot. He recently got the call to play in the Legends tournament, a compilation of some of the best NBA players, along with a few others. One of these, Andre Wilson, who recently was signed by the Cleveland Cavaliers and looks to make his comeback.

Andre, who played well at the tournament, led his team to winning the whole thing. Outside of the tournament, little is known about how his game is since the accident. We will show you an old scouting report of him from his freshman season at Michigan.

The good
-One of the best shooting guards in all of college basketball. Has crazy range, and it should show at the next level.
- This guy has ups. Who would have thought a 6'2 boy could get up like that?
- Probably the best post guard in recent memory. Can take you down low and score at will.
- Big play defender. Can block shots, and can get steals.
- Overall, an athletic freak.
- One of the best rebounding guards in the nation.
- Very aware out on the court. That should translate into success at the next level.

The bad
- Sometimes struggle with fundamentals.
- Definitely a scoring guard. Has struggled to get his teammates involved.
- A big play defender. Very impatient. You will see him gamble for steals and blocks a lot.
- Could be faster. With the speed of the NBA, he may struggle.

How much of this still holds true?? Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. He is expected to start at point guard for the Cavaliers in this upcoming season.

Apparently, throughout the process of getting into the tournament, and eventually into the league, Andre met up with Bernard Rogers. Rogers, who also played in the tournament, was signed with the Knicks as a shooting guard. Apparently a sort of rivalry was created in the process.

Interview with Andre Wilson

Q: You have been accused of being a selfish player, looking to score only for yourself. How do you respond do this?

A: Well, I’m definitely a good scorer. I love to get points. But, I also realize that this team has some great offensive players in place, and they need a guard to get them the ball. I'm going in with that mentality, but I will also still showcase my scoring abilities when need be. I'm just going to do what it takes to win.


Q: What is your relationship with the Bernard Rogers?

A: Bernard is all talk. He honestly thinks he’s better than me. I can’t wait until we play so I can prove him wrong in front of everyone.

Q: How does it feel to get a 2nd chance? After that accident, I don't think anybody thought you were going to come back. Now look at you, starting for the Cavs, playing alongside Lebron James. How does it feel?

A: Oh it's great man. I'm just lookin to showcase my abilities, as well as lead this team to a championship.

What a game. This one could go into OT. Cavs are dowm 1 with 1 minute to go. We're just trading buckets now. Andre is coming up huge in the clutch. Wizards up 1 with a minute to go. ANDRE GETS A STEAL!!! Throws it up court to Hughes who lays it in. Cavs up 1 We're up 1 with 30 seconds, they foul Gooden who misses both. Ilgauskus gets the offensive rebound, they foul, he makes both. Wizards ball, 27 seconds left, Cavs up 3. Final seconds of the game and Gilbert Arenas has an open 3 and he misses the buzzer beater to take it into overtime.

Interview With Lebron James



So how do you feel about your teams chances about winning the conference this season?

A: Oh, I feel great. We have been a great team; we were just missing apiece here and there. I think adding Andre at the point is definitely going to help us out.

You mention Andre Wilson, new point guard. He had a great start, putting up 24 points in his NBA debut. What do you think of his game?

A: Oh, he's great. Like I said, just another one of the pieces. With another big player like him, I see no reason we can't go all the way.

Yea, you guys already got an impressive win vs. the Wizards. We talked about Wilson's 24-point game, but you didn't play too shabby yourself... A lot of people are talking MVP, what do you say to them?

A: I mean, I’m not going to lie it would be nice. I try not to think about it though. You know, right now my goal is to win a championship. If I get an MVP, great, but if not that's fine. I just want our team to be successful.
