Re: 2008 NBA Draft Prospect: Anthony Herring
Draft Notes:The no.1 question persists for Charlotte
![]() By: Chad Ford, ESPN Orlando, FL -- The debate on who should be the no. 1 pick n the draft stirs on as Noth Carolina big man Jure Medina fueled the fire. "Charlotte's gonna take Anthony," said Medina. "We all know all the Tar Heels that are in the organization, and they're gonna get the guy they know got the best coaching." At the center of them was the Bobcats' relationship with Herring's agents -- Arn Tellem and B.J. Armstrong. Tellem was the agent who orchestrated delivering J.R. Smith to Charlotte and has a strong relationship with the owner. Armstrong used to work in the Bobcats' front office. Did someone inside the Bobcats give Tellem a heads up? When Rod Higgins, GM of the Bobcats, arrived in Orlando for the 5 p.m. game, a group of reporters surrounded him and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Ira Winderman asked how Medina could "know" that the Bobcats were taking Herring. Higins was not thrilled with the question. "There is no reason anyone would have any clue," he said. "It doesn't do me any good to even respond to this kind of stuff. I'm really tired of it already. … Nobody has any clue. Anyone who guesses can do that. That's okay. No one knows." Winderman persisted, asking Higgins if he's made up his mind. Higgins ended the interview telling everyone that he's got a month to make a decision and to back off and just let him do his job. Clearly Higgin's is getting tired of the back and forth speculation that's become a fasination among the media and NBA executives. I tend to side with Higgins on this one. He wont make a decision until he does all of his research. That includes workouts, background checks, interviews and a review of every game that all the players has played. He may be leaning one way or the other, but that can change as the Bobcats get deeper into the process. Last edited by B-MARSH15 : 10-26-2008 at 02:09 PM. |

Re: 2008 NBA Draft Prospect: Anthony Herring
Welcome to this year NBA Draft. We at ESPN are proud to televise the every pick in this year's draft. And now, the time has come, Mr. David Stern will now announce the first pick:
David Stern: With the first pick in the NBA Draft, the Charlotte Bobcats select...(pause) ... Anthony Herring, a shooting guard from the North Carolina. ![]() ![]() hugs, and kisses from his family as Anthony Herring stands up in his suit) ESPN Announcer: Well, one year in college for Anthony, who led North Carolina to 30 wins and brought them to the National Championship. Stuart Scott is with Anthony's mother. Stuart Scott: Mike, I'm here with Herring's mom, and its gotta be an emotional moment. Whats running through your mind right now? Mother: (long pause...still no answer as she continues to weep). Stuart Scott: Is this a dream for you? Mother: yes. Stuart Scott: At what point did you know your son, was not just a special person but a special basketball player? Mother: (she can not hold back the tears, as there is no answer) Stuart Scott: It's Okay... tears of joy I'm sure! We'll talk to her later as this moment is too much. ESPN Announcer: Great Offensive player in college, Charlotte was last in points, free throw percentage, and field goal percentage... Anthony Herring is with Michelle Tafoya. Michelle Tafoya: Mike thanks very much, Anthony you have the house behind you, your mom was speechless - overcome with emotion. Can you tell us what this moment means to you and your family? Herring: Uh, dis moment just mean a lot to me right now. Tafoya: You have gone on the record, that your are the best player in this draft, and Charlotte has prove today. But what do you know about your game that others don't. Herring: uh, I just think i'm da all around player, I can do it all. Tafoya: Roy Williams said you are the most fun player he has ever coached, what do you think he meant by that. Herring: Well, like I just said, I bring a lot to the court, and basketball is about having fun, and if your not having fun then, they don't need for you to be playing. Tafoya: Have fun in Charlotte Anthony! Last edited by B-MARSH15 : 10-26-2008 at 02:11 PM. |

Re: 2008 NBA Draft Prospect: Anthony Herring
![]() Bucks 86, Bobcats 82 Hering misses two clutch free throws in opening loss By Jeffrey Tammer Charlotte Observer Writer Milwaukee, WI - Just about everyone in the Bradley Center wanted to see what Bobcats rookie Anthony Herring can do. At the end of the game, everyone was just about dissapointed. Herring was constantly on the bench for being in foul trouble, and was missing a lot of shots. He finished the game with 9 points and a rebound. "I think he had the jitters," said Bobcats co-owner Michael Jordan. "He came out and just started fouling, and I think he just wanted to be a part of the game and got too excited." Late in the game, with the score 84-82 Bobcats, Herring was fouled by Yi Jianlian, and had a chance to tie the game. He missed both free throws with 12 seconds left in the game, and the Bobcats suffered a loss in Milwaukee. Gerald Wallace led the Bobcats with 38 points, and Michael Redd led the Bucks with 25 points. ![]() Last edited by B-MARSH15 : 10-26-2008 at 02:16 PM. |

Re: 2008 NBA Draft Prospect: Anthony Herring
Anthony Herring has tattoos on his arms, his hair in cornrows, and he sports a headband and long baggy shorts. He dresses the part of the next great NBA phenom…but can he play that part?
herring has wasted no time in letting it be known that he is all about handling his business and has already elevated the Bobcats, yes the Bobcats, to one of the most hip teams in the league. Herring not only plays the part of the phenom, he plays it to perfection. ![]() Slam magazine caught up with the Colorado native out in Atlanta to talk about the hard knock life both on and off the court from Colorado to Charlotte. And oh yeah, I almost forgot a little pit stop in a town call North Carolina SLAM: Well, now that your the face of Charlotte, how does it feel. Herring: It feels good. Im used to be the guy who everyone looks up to, and it means a lot to me. This is going to be a big year for Charlotte. SLAM: Who are some of the key players you think will step up this season? Herring: Well, definetly [Raymond] Felton. This year he won't be stopped, he has worked so hard this off-season - Im looking forward to what hes gonna do. And I also want to see what some of these rookies are going to do also. SLAM: Growing up in Colorado, you were a big Carmelo fan, how is going to be like when you play Denver this year? Herring: Well, I talk to Melo all the time, so Its not like I dont know the guy. Also my family - all of them - gets tickets to the game, so Im looking forward to that. SLAM: The Tar Heels are looking good this year, how do you think they'll do? Herring: Oh, they'll do good. Man they are stacked form top to bottom. They have the talent there, now they just need to put the pieces together and win the championship. It was really cool to go to there summer camp and watch them do workouts and stuff. And being able to coach them was a real pleasure, I hope they go all the way this year. Last edited by B-MARSH15 : 10-26-2008 at 02:20 PM. |
