Question NBA 2k7 Defense???

What's going everybody that plays NBA 2K7? I love to play NBA 2k7 alot. But I have a problem. I was wondering if anyone can help me out with this one. I play with the Suns and my boy play with the Mavericks. And he always murder me with Jason Terry's 3 point shot. I tried double teaming him everytime he crosses half court and he still does his thing. On player match up I would put Raja Bell on him with tight coverage. What would you do to stop him?? And how do you do full court trap/press effectively. When I do it, my players don't really get into it unless i'm down by a lot in the 4th qtr. Is there any defensive scheme that would help this problem?

Re: NBA 2k7 Defense???

Run a 2-3 zone and control the PF. Have the PF shade the ball--follow it around as it is passed. If someone attempts to
shoot, he'll have three guys in his face. If someone drives, they have 3 guys in their way. be careful on fouls and missed rebounds though.

Re: NBA 2k7 Defense???

If you do what Solidus suggested online, you'd probably get a cheeser label... Playing off-ball defense and 'camping' with a big guy is kinda shady in this game because playing on-ball defense takes a lot of skill... so playing off-ball the whole time is basically letting the CPU play your defense for you, and that's frowned upon by the majority of the sim community. But if your friend doesn't mind, then go for it.

Also, the 2-3 zone is a horrible idea against deep shooting. I normally just use man-to-man and play tight on them manually (it's hard, but if you practice, you can get in their face and cause the shot to miss)... Failing that, I put it to a 3-2 zone, as it covers the perimeter a little bit better.

In general though, it is pretty hard to stop guys that shoot threes all day long -- you just have to have a man in their face... even just standing there in front of the guy can effect the shot (especially soneone with a high defensive rating). Trying for the block/challenge often results in a foul, but putting your hands up with the R-stick (away from ball-handler) can help to challenge the shot and basically never ends in a foul.

Not camping...play passing lane defense with a zone. I usually run with the Cavs, so I tend to control LeBron on Defense and the PG on Offense. I mix up my D against good players, becasue the weakness with my mentioned defense is a quick pass will find an open wing shooter.

Re: NBA 2k7 Defense???

Yeah, I just wanted to let him know that off-ball defense like that is considered cheesing by most of the sim players... just so he doesn't get surprised if someone calls him on it. I don't personally mind it too much, but with the passing mechanics on this game already being pretty flawed, playing passing lanes is a super-easy way to get cheap turnovers, and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I play lanes once in a while (mostly with my on-ball defender and the R-stick 'slide' moves), but it feels like a total glitch-fest when I end up with a bazillion steals just by standing in the way while the ball-handler makes a terrible pass into my chest. Using a big player to float around makes it even worse, and the chances of a glitch-ball go up substantially with a bigger player in the way... It works, but it's kind of a ****ty way to play defense, given the limitations/problems with this game.

It's a legit defense in the NBA, but it's a little cheap in this game when playing against other players just because of the bad passing mechanics, especially if the other guy is playing legit on-ball defense.

Re: NBA 2k7 Defense???

I guess I'm not that good then, because I don't get but maybe 4-5 steals a game.
