Classic Teams in 08 name thread

I'll be researching the Classic teams in March Madness 08 and putting the names in this thread as I complete each team.

I'm totally shocked EA included over 70+ teams......

Anyway's this is what I enjoy playing with old school players and hopefully by the time the game is out I'll have a great deal of information posted in this thread to help you guy's come up with accurate rosters for MM 08

Now, if they could just do this NCAA 09 and that way I won't have to create my own rosters anymore....

The 1954 Undefeated Team, which went 25-0 in the regular season and defeated LSU in a playoff to earn the Southeastern Conference bid to the NCAA tournament. However, several of the team's players had technically graduated during the 1954 season and were prohibited from tournament play. Despite the wishes of the players, Rupp refused to allow the team to play in the tournament, thus leading to the team's reputation as one of the best teams ever to fail to win an NCAA title.

Rupp's Runts: The 1966 team, with no starter taller than 6'5" (1.96 m), was arguably the most beloved in UK history. Despite its lack of size, it used devastating defensive pressure and a fast-paced offense to take a 27-1 record and top national ranking into the NCAA final against Texas Western. However, the Miners would deny Rupp another title. For more details on the game, see the articles for Rupp and the Miners' coach, Don Haskins. Future NBA coach Pat Riley was a starter on this team.

The Unforgettables: This refers to the 1992 team—more specifically, to the team's four seniors, Richie Farmer, Deron Feldhaus, John Pelphrey, and Sean Woods. During their senior year, after a two-year absence from postseason play due to NCAA probation, they led the Cats to a deep run in the NCAA tournament, losing 104-103 in the East Regional final to Duke in an overtime game often called the greatest game in NCAA basketball history.

The Untouchables: The 1996 team was arguably the most talented team in college basketball history, with nine players who would eventually play in the NBA:
Derek Anderson
Tony Delk
Walter McCarty
Ron Mercer
Nazr Mohammed
Mark Pope
Jeff Sheppard
Wayne Turner
Antoine Walker

When USF, starring Bill Russell and Hal Perry, defeated Iowa 83-71 to win their second straight NCAA title, they ran its unbeaten streak to 55 games. Even without All-America guard K.C. Jones, ineligible for the tourney, few expected anyone to challenge the dominant Dons, who hadn't won a regular season game by less than seven points.

Russell snagged a combined 50 rebounds in the semifinal and final.

Jerry Lucas, only a soph, averaged 26 points and 16 rebounds on the season, shooting 63 percent from the field. Fellow starters John Havlicek, Mel Nowell, Joe Roberts and Larry Siegfried each averaged 11-plus points per game. The young Buckeyes lost two games early in the season but won the Big Ten title with a 13-1 record.

By the time the Big Dance rolled around, Ohio State was unstoppable. ""We immediately developed almost total communication on the floor," Havlicek said. "Our basketball intellects meshed perfectly. We never had to call a play."

The Buckeyes rambled through the NCAA tourney with ease, winning every game by at least 15, and blowing out California in the final, 71-51. All of the team's starters eventually played at least two years in the pros.

On the season, Indiana outscored opponents by an average margin of 17.3 ppg. May, Benson and Buckner were All-America selections in both 1975 and 1976, with May being named the NCAA Player of the Year.

The Wolfpack's only loss came to the Walton Gang, but they avenged that defeat by ousting UCLA in the NCAA tourney semifinal in overtime, 80-77.

N.C. State had tough competition in 1974 -- their 103-100 overtime win over Maryland for the ACC title was one of the greatest games in college basketball history.

But David Thompson had led N.C. State through two seasons with only one loss, and thrilled spectators with his 42-inch vertical leap as he soared to slam Monty Towe's alley oop passes. Also shining for the Wolfpack in 1974 -- center Tom Burleson, who averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds per game, and guard Moe Rivers, who, like Towe, scored about 12 ppg.

The 1982-83 club finished the season with a 31-3 record, and played in the national championship game for the first time in school history.

Re: Classic Teams in 08 name thread

I found this at Team Xbox, Classic teams is really why I'm getting this years version. Pretty good read if your fan of old school basketball like myself.

Game Rankings - External Link

Even if EA’s Canadian development house didn’t change a thing for NCAA 08 March Madness’ gameplay, this one would be a hit. Why? Classic teams. This is exactly what the dev team needed to do to give the franchise some legs, and of course they went BIG as EA usually does with all things involving licensing.

There are no less than seventy classic teams in NCAA 08 March Madness, which means if your alma mater was ever a hoop powerhouse, it will be represented in this iteration. Imagine playing with Lew Alcindor and the ’68 Bruins. Or bringing Jordan off of the bench to nail the outside jumper for the ’82 Tar Heels. Maybe Laettner and his fairy-tale season of 1992 for the Blue Devils is more your speed?

We could really go on-and-on with the various scenarios that can now be created with NCAA 08 March Madness’s classic teams, and simply how great an opportunity this is to relive the past in a college sports title. The fact of the matter is that former collegians may not care less about the current crop of players or season (since most of the talent goes directly to the NBA now anyways), but it’s easy to relate to NCAA b-ball lore, including the athletes and teams that have made the Big Dance what it is today. EACA even went so far as using players from these classic teams in order to create an “ultimate” squad for a bunch of D1 powerhouses. Iverson and Ewing on the same team? Can you say inside/outside dominance? We knew you could (Forget Mr. Robisnon’s neighborhood; this is Ewing’s block, and he hates you in his paint).

Being able to play as Shaq in his late-80’s LSU days is great, but EACA knew it would need to implement new gameplay features in order to take full advantage of the beefed-up rosters in NCAA 08 March Madness.

Dominique Wilkins is the only Georgia men's basketball player to have his jersey retired. Three-year starter at Georgia, where he broke the school's all-time scoring mark in his final collegiate game (15 points vs. Purdue in the 1982 NIT semifinals). Though that record would go on to be broken, his 1,688 points in only 78 games remains fourth on the all-time list. He has the two most prolific scoring seasons in the school's history with 732 points (23.6 ppg) as a sophomore in 1981 and 659 points (21.3 ppg) as a junior in 1982. As Hugh Durham's first major signee, he helped give Georgia basketball national recognition. He was named second-team All-American in 1981 and '82. The MVP of the 1981 SEC Tournament.

The 1990 "Dream Season" would bring UConn basketball to the national stage. Led by Chris Smith, Nadav Henefeld and Tate George, UConn went from unranked in the preseason to winning the Big East Regular Season and Tournament Championships, both for the first time. 1990 also marked the opening of Gampel Pavilion, the program's new on-campus home. In the NCAA Tournament the Huskies garnered a #1 seed in the East Reigon, but trailed Clemson 70-69 with 1 second remaining in the Sweet 16. Scott Burrell's full-court pass found Tate George on the far baseline. George spun, fired, and hit a buzzer-beater that is known in Connecticut simply as "The Shot". They would be eliminated on a buzzer-beater 2 days later by Duke, losing in overtime 79-78.

Just to much to pass up with the ability to get to play with these ole school teams. 1 more week baby. Peace!!!! Almost forgot when UNLV played Arkansas when they were ranked #1 & #2 and Todd Day Tried to flare up on Stacey Augmon and Larry Johnson stepped in and gave him the look of you don't want any of this. Re: Classic Teams in 08 name thread

I was told they speeded up the game play from the demo version, not sure how it resolves problem though as i didn't even test play the demo. So, I'm hoping the game is atleast an improvement over MM 07 because i felt last years version was a solid game not great but it was pretty good with sliders.

This years game for me personally is all about the Classic teams....

Once I saw the squads that were assembled I was shocked EA put in the time to add those teams. That's mainly where all my player/roster file work will be done in MM 08......I love the old school uniforms EA included on those teams (Short-Shorts, T-Shorts, old school sneakers) Afro's on guy's like Magic and David Thompson...

I hope the individual ratings really play a huge role to make star players really stand out. One thing I do know is after playing the demo a little while tonight the PG domination is not there like in Live 08 which is a good thing. I must admit the I did not give the demo a fair shot a few weeks back but the floor spacing, player movement, a toned down fastbreak, numerous other things I saw and Playmakers Classic Rosters this game should be SICK!!!! Peace!!!
