17 @ 14 Jonesboro, Arkansas - New Army head coach Jamie Woodson escaped his firsat game with a 17-14 nailbiter against the Arkansas State Indians. In a game that had heavy down pours through its entirety was sloppy from the get go. For nearly three quarters both teams tried to run the ball against defenses that just were not going to allow it. The two teams each punted there first two drives until Army scored on a 12 yard run by fullback Shawn Small to put the Black Knights up 7-0. The teams took that score to the locker room with both coaches dissappointed in there teams. The third quarters was much like the first two with both teams desperately trying to get there running game going. After an Army fumble ASU picked it up and ran it back 54 yards to tie the game 7-7. Army was able to pull ahead with ):34 left in the third 10-7 on a 38 yard feild goal. The fourth quarter would be where it all would be decided. Both teams realizing they couldnt run went to the air. Army moved down the field on there first drive of the quarter threw the air ending with a 2 yard touchdown run from Danny Johnson to put the Black Knights up 17-7. Knowing this was do or die the Indians launched there own aerial assault ending with a 34 yard strike to make the score 17-14. After the onsides kick failed Army ran the clock out to escape this nail biting classic 17-14. The Black Knights play the Kent State Golden Flash next week in hopes of taking a 2-0 record into the 12th Man to play the Texas A&M Aggies the following week.
