The Next Joe Namath?

"Hello and welcome to Memorial Field. Tonight's State playoff game is between #1 Lake Michigan Catholic and #16 seed Bishop Foley. Bishop Foley, at 5-4, slid into the playoffs after a last-second win over Mt. Zion Christian and the disqualification of Denby High. The Ventures are led by Chance Kennedy, who at 5'9" and 175, doesn't look like your typical quarterback. However, ask every opponent Bishop Foley had faced and they'll tell you otherwise. Kennedy has 2128 pass yards and 16 touchdowns with only 6 interceptions to go along with his 2197 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. Right now the teams are warming up and Nick Morris is with Chance Kennedy. Nick?"

"Thanks Bob. I'm here with senior quarterback Chance Kennedy of the Bishop Foley Ventures. Chance, how excited are you to be playing in the State Playoffs after the multiple heartbreaks your junior year and this year?"

"I'm extremely excited, this is what I dreamed of my entire life... well this and to become a Michigan Wolverine. I have total confidence in this team and I know we'll play our hearts out."

"So how you think you'll matchup with Lake Michigan Catholic?"

"We matchup well with them. In fact, I'll go out on a slight limb and say we'll win. I know none of your guys will agree with me on that but you'll see when the clock strikes zero."

"So Chance, you a fan of Joe Namath, by chance?"

"Hey that was funny how you said that. But yes I am. I try to model the leadership part of my game after him, I mean weren't the Jets big underdogs against the Colts? Aren't we big underdogs against Lake Michigan Catholic? Hmm... well I got to get ready, it was great talking to ya."

"Thanks Chance, good luck out there. We just got done talking to Michigan's own Joe Namath, now back to the studio."

"Thanks Nick, we'll be back after this commerical break."

The 'on air' light turned off and suddenly there was laughing.

"So do you think they have a chance?"

"Who, Bishop Foley? Not a chance in hell."

Yeah, it just started today, and we have the day off tomorrow because of the storm coming at Florida, so i'm happy about that.

But, I haven't had the time to post recently, mainly because i've been with my band for a while, writing music, and we're recording alot of stuff tomorrow, so yeah.

Once everything settles down, i'll be able to post more.

Did I See What I Thought I Saw?

I knew no one thought we had a chance, expect for our team. And that's all we needed. We came out of the lockerroom in our home blacks (because Lake Michigan Catholic thinks they're the Cowboys) fired up and ready to go. The first drive was a three and out but we quickly got the ball back.

"Kennedy drops to pass and there's pressure. He throws it up... IT'S PICKED OFF!"

"S***!"

I threw my helmet against the bench and watched Lake Michigan Catholic drive down the field but their kicker missed a 52 yard field goal. With that luck, the next play we took the wind out of Lake Michigan Catholic's sails.

"Chance Kennedy is running the option, takes off downfield. He breaks free and is OFF TO THE RACES! A 65 YARD TOUCHDOWN RUN TO PUT BISHOP FOLEY UP 6-0!"

After that long TD run, the next drive wasn't so friendly. I was sacked, tackled after a 1 yard run, and then I threw another pick. My luck changed again on the following drive though. I hooked up with Mike for 18, ran for 5, 10, 7, and 16 yards. I threw an incompletion but found Bobby Lawson for another first and then found Mike for a 8-yard score. We had another drive before halftime and I threw my third pick on a hail mary.

"Kennedy drops back and finds Louis Rodriguez out of the backfield. Rodriguez has blockers out in front of him and he'll use them. 20, 10, TOUCHDOWN VENTURES! A 45 YARD HOOKUP!"

The next drive was all me. I carried the ball for 4, 7, 30, 12, and 7 yards and finished it off and stuck a fork in Lake Michigan Catholic with a 2 yard TD.

"Did I just see what I thought I saw? Number 16 seed Bishop Foley upsets number 1 Lake Michigan Catholic, 34-3! What an amazing win!"

I led our band in our fight song as the Lake Michigan Catholic faithful went back to their rides in disbelief.
