okay so while i was on vacation, i had the bright idea to make a conference dynasty where i control every team in the conference. to the people following my miami redhawks dynasty, sorry, but i believe this could be more interesting than following one team, but much more work. part of the conference preview will be up tomorrow.

8. Florida International Golden Panthers (1-11, 1-6)

Overview: The Golden Panthers return 16 starters with their kicker and punter but they were 1-11 last year for a reason. The quarterback position is up for grabs, as returning starter Wayne Younger will have to fight off fellow sophomore Colt Anderson and junior Paul McCall. The runningback position is a little more settled though with two seniors leading the charge. A’Mod Ned is poised for a huge final year while Julian Reams can step in when needed. Scott Bryant is the heart of the defense, as the junior totaled 91 tackles last year.

7. UL-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns (3-9, 3-4)

Overview: Returning 15 starters and the kicker and punter, you’d think the Ragin’ Cajuns would be ranked higher, right? Well the offense certainly isn’t the problem. Seniors Michael Desormeaux and Tyrell Fenroy both ran for over 1,000 yards last year and Jason Chery is a capable receiver. The defense gives up many big plays and lets the offenses control the clock against them. Senior linebacker Antwyne Zanders leads the defense with 93 tackles last year.


Senior runningback Tyrell Fenroy will look to put up another 1,000 yard season in his last hurrah.

6. UL-Monroe Warhawks (6-6, 4-3)

Overview: The Warhawks return 14 starters and a punter this year. The offense is led by senior quarterback Kinsmon Lancaster and he has two starting wideouts and a tight end returning to catch his passes. The runningback position situation is unsettled as the Warhawks will turn for someone to take over graduated Calvin Dawson’s job this year. Two freshmen, a sophomore, and a junior are in the running. On the defensive side, Craig James is one of the best in the league, picking off 5 passes last year.


Senior quarterback Kinsmon Lancaster will look to surpass Steven Jyles as the best quarterback in UL-Monroe history.

5. North Texas Mean Green (2-10, 1-6)

Overview: This is are first sleeper to make a splash in the Sun Belt this year. They return 11 starters and a punter, but one of those starters might not keep his job this year. Sophomore Giovanni Vizza is in a fierce competition with 4-star freshman Riley Dodge, coach Todd Dodge’s son. Either quarterback will be throwing to senior wideout Casey Fitzgerald, a former walk-on turned potential All-American. The defensive side of the ball is led by junior cornerback Antoine Bush, starting for his third year, and senior linebacker Craig Robertson who led the team in interceptions last year.


Casey Fitzgerald will look to pull a Jordy Nelson and go from walk-on to All-American this year. On another note, North Texas has the coolest uniforms.
