|Bowl Week - Rebels @ Boilermakers|

Boilermakers finish off Rebels thanks to fine kicking - win Outback Bowl

Tampa, FL -- Jevan Snead might've been the quarterback of this team two months ago, but today he just didn't have the guts to play the position - and if it weren't for the fact that it was the Outback Bowl, I guarantee you Mr. Nutt would have subbed out the young man.

Right off the bat
Curtis Painter showed that he belonged on the field, throwing for just over 200 some odd yards and a touchdown. His very first snap from scrimmage was a touchdown pass to wide-out Desmond Tardy, who eluded safety, Kendrick Lewis (who was out of position in the first place) and galloped on his way for a nice 51-yard score.

Automatic kicker
Purdue's kicker, Chris Summers, was the man who would carry his team on his back the remainder of the game, being as he was the only who would put points on the board. Summers went 5 for 6 in field goals made, including a 51-yard boomer that just went through the uprights. Whenever it looked like the Rebels were going to get close, Summers' kicks made the momentum shift in favor of the Boilermakers.

A not so nice ending
How did this one end? Down 10-23, Houston Nutt calls for nothing but hail-mary plays with under a minute to go. Jevan Snead's first down attempt at a hail-mary for Marshay Green was deflected, then the second down effort was closer to the lemonade vendor in row 20 than it was to Shay Hodge. Finally, Snead looked like he would connect with big-boy David Traxler - who had already caught the lone Rebels touchdown. The pass wasn't looking too bad, but in came Purdue cornerback Charlton Williams. Williams caught the ball, broke a tackle, broke Jevan Snead's - who looked like he was trying to fall gracefully than tackle Williams - attempt and scooted into the endzone to finish the Rebels off, 29-10.

Don't worry, the Nutt will be back
Speculation had it right after the game on whether or not Houston Nutt would be back next year - he announced later in the evening that he had already accepted a contract extension of 3 years with the Rebels.

Nutt's bowl loss will stick with him though, and what looked like was going to be a dream season, ended up cannon-balling out of control. A record of 8-5 is miles times better than last year, but we all know it could have been better.

Look forward to writing more of these - see y'all in the offseason.

Yeah, Snead...hmm...he's good - he has just not finished the season right. I do not believe we recruited any QBs this year, so it's going to be up to him next year I'm assuming.
