Re: "I didn't do that!" The Life Story of Anthony Williams

The Beginning

I have everything going for me. I am a team captain on the Fruitport Trojan football team. I am a HS All-American. I have tons of friends and a hot girlfriend. Life couldn't get better. That was until the season started. We were so unstoppable. We blew our first game with Reeths Puffer right out of the water 42-6. I had 2 picks, 1 TD and 11 tackles. Our next opponent was Tri-County. We had a good game with them. But behind Kevin Walters (fictional) great Running we won 24-17. Just with those two games I had 20 tackles, 3 interceptions, 1 touchdown, 2 fumbles forced, and 1 fumble recovered. I had a talk with my coach after the game.

"Son, you're doing well out there. Really showing up every game."

"Thanks Coach."

"You are most welcome. I hate to be a spoiler but I overheard the Board thinking of putting you into the School Hall of Fame."

"Aww! Thats awesome!"

"Well thats if you keep averaging 10 tackles and an Interception every game. (chuckles)"

"(Laughs) Well I can try."

"Great game, son."

"You too, Coach."

Ok, life just did get better

Re: "I didn't do that!" The Life Story of Anthony Williams

Week 3 and 2 Great Talks

It's September 11th, 2008, and it's the day before our game versus Ludington. We always have a little momentum boost before every away game and this week wasn't any different.

"Who is the best?!"

"(School) Trojans!"

"Who is the best?!"

"(School) Trojans!"

Later I was met with an official that made me absoulutley amazed.

"Anthony Williams?"

"Yes, that's me."

"Hi, I'm Robert Toinoid (fictional) with the Athletic Board of Michigan Wolverines. We are very astonished with your recent football play."

"Well thank you, sir. Not to brag but I get that a lot."

"No, that's fine. I'll be flat-out and clear with a great player like you, we want to offer you a scholarship to play for the University of Michigan."

"Ahhh.....um.....I..I'm speechless."

"Haha. We get that a lot. Well what do you think?"

"Well I'm pretty sure you won't be the only one to offer me one. So I'll get back to you."

"Thank you. Really hope to see you in a Wolverine uniform by next seasons start."

"Yes and no, thank you."

Well thats one thing to get me pumped before a game. I'll definitely be looking for him in the crowd.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Week 3

Ludington definitely wasn't going to go down in front of their home crowd. They started off big with a 35 yard touchdown pass. We responded with Kevin Walters scoring on a big 56 yard touchdown run. Now it was my time to shine. Their drive stalled on 4th down and on the drive I got 2 tackles. We scored again with Reynaldo Dantre throwing and hitting Mike Ronald for 21 yards. Ludington was back on offense and I recovered a fumble but it wasn't much help because Dantre had a fumble of his own to give Ludington the ball with good field position. They only got a field goal and that was it for the half. I had 3 tackles and a fumble recovered in the first. Thats not an average game. It was probably my nerves. Coach got us pumped though.

"Ok, who wants to go out there and lose? Show of hands."

(Pause)

"Great. No one. So why is the score 14-10? Anyone? Didn't think so. Now how about going and scoring some points for me. Huh? How does that sound. And the defense. Ughhh! My great-grandmother could cover a pass better than you guys were. Williams, where were you that half? Alright, you better give you friends and family something to cheer about when you get back."

So the second half went better, as expected. I got 5 tackles and another INT in the second half and Walters got 2 more touchdowns. We did end up winning but not by much as it was 35-24. After the game another guy slowed me down to talk to me.

"Hey, Anthony Williams right?"

"Yeah thats me."

"Well I am Larry Cablguy with Michigan St. and your play really has us wanting to come play for the Spartans."

"Well I'm honored and I have other schools to get back to so how 'bout I stay in touch?"

"Sounds great. Hope you make the right decision."

The top 2 colleges in Michigan want me? Wow, I am soooo amazing.

Re: "I didn't do that!" The Life Story of Anthony Williams

Week 4+5 and a Bad Talk

Week 4

We were home aginast Spring Lake and they weren't the greatest team in the world. We totally dominated but I guess you want a recap. Walters continued his season with 3 touchdowns in the first. I got 7 tackles and 2 INT in just one half. This was going to be a career game. Reynaldo added a touchdown to make the halftime score 28-3. We continued to pour it on with 3 more touchdowns. One by Walters, one by Dantre, and one by Timmy Fresno on the defense. We totally rolled over Spring Lake and were 4-0 through our first 4 games.

Stats: 13 tackles, 2 interceptions, 1 fumble forced

Bad Talk

After the game I was apporached by another person....er.....people. Thee hottest clique in the High came up to me and started to rub all on me. Talking a bunch of stuff I just sat there. Melissa totally slipped my mind......until she showed up.

"Ugh! Anthony?!?"

"Uh...um...ladies. Could you gimme a minute?"

"Sure stud."

"I can't believe you! How dare you!"

"Well...it's not what it looks lik.."

"Oh, thats what they all say."

"No, seriously. It's not. They just apporached me and...."

"You just sat there. Yeah, I was there too."

"Well.."

"See you later, jerk. Maybe I won't though."

"Mel...wait."

She was gone. Man, she was the greatest girl ever. She was....awww. I can't even say. I was devastated.

Week 5

We played Fremont at home this week and I'll be honest we were supposed to win....big. If you didn't know, Fremont is a country city. Very farmish, and hill-billyish I guess is what you'd call it. I'll be honest again, my head was not in the game. I had one word going through my mind. "Mel". That was it. I was totally dazed out not knowing when the play was even started. Once I was in deep zone on a Cover 2 and I had the responsibilty of the reciever running the streak and he blew right by me. He scored easily from 61 yards. Star running back Travis McDonald scored twice. Once when he busted me over. Led behind great OT Matt Bolles, Justin Harms threw two touchdowns in the half. I guess if I'm not in it, my whole team isn't in it. My half stats were well below average. I had 2 tackles and that was it. Coach pulled me aside.

"Son, what's going on out there? You looking for the moon or something?"

"Well Coach...I..I just.."

"Just what? We're losing to Fremont 28-3. What is causing that?"

"It may be stupid Coach but...my girl just dumped me."

"Well, leave your personal life off the football field."

Then he left.

"Thanks for helping and concerning." I said to myself

The second half went a little better but not much. We scored 17 and they scored 14 but that was all that was needed. We lost our first game 42-20.

Re: "I didn't do that!" The Life Story of Anthony Williams

Week 6 and Homecoming

Week 6

We were playing Orchard View and we weren't picked to win. We were picked to lose by 13. It was just under that. We started good with a TD by Walters. Reyanldo increased our lead with a TD throw to Ricky Little. Orchard View struck back with a TD throw. They scored again to tie it at 14. We added a FG to lead by 3. I had 4 tackles and 2 interceptions. The second half was terrible and low-scoring. Orchard View scored the only points with 2 touchdowns both coming from turnovers by us. One interception thrown by Dantre and one fumble by Walters. We lost to one of our biggest rivals 28-17.

Stats: 8 tackles 2 interceptions

Homecoming

Homecoming is always a blast. Me, Walters, and Dantre were the leaders of the pep rally. I saw Mel a couple of times. Once I started staring and didn't talk. Kevin had to bump me to get me going again. Once I was off the mic, I searched for Mel. I saw her twice. That was it. But I can't let her get on my mind this game. Not this game. Not homecoming. The game was against Grant and we were picked to win by 10. I picked off a pass on Grants first possession and returned it for six.....almost. I got tackled at the 2. Can you believe that? How does that happen? What are the odds? Anyway, that pick set-up a TD by Walters. Reynaldo ran and threw for another TD. I allowed one touchdown. I jumped to bat down the ball and it knicked my fingers and fell into Grants players hands. He took it all the way. I had 7 tackles and 1 pick at the half. The second half was great. Walters scored twice more and Timmy Long scored on a fumble recovery caused by yours truly. We won 42-17. It felt good to win homecoming. Giving us confidence that we needed to win the State Championship

Stats: 11 tackles, 1 interception, 1 fumble forced, and 2 yards short of a TD

Re: "I didn't do that!" The Life Story of Anthony Williams

Last Two Games and Last Colleges

Week 8

We played Newaygo this week and it couldn't of gotten better. I got a text from Mel saying:

(all texts)

"I saw u lookin 4 me at homecoming."

I replied: "yeah so?"

"so...you want me"

"well that incident was an accident"

"how can i believe that?"

"bcause you no me"

"ok i guess we can try it again"

Yes!!! Ha HA!!! I got her back. This was gonna be a B-A game.

It was and nothing less. Our offense was in it scoring 3 times in the first half and I scored once off a fumble recovery. In the first half alone I had 8 tackles, 1 interception, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 touchdown. We were winning 28-10. Newaygo put up a fight making it too close for comfort. Newyagos star QB threrw 2 touchdown to make it just 28-24. With under :30 to go, they were driving on us. They were at our 20. The QB, Scotty Land, launched one more heave toward the endzone to try and win the game but I jumped in front of John Necker to pick the pass off and win the game. I got the game ball as we didn't manage one point in the second half. We still won which was good but I had a monster game.

Stats: 14 tackles, 2 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 touchdown

Last Colleges

I already got offered scholarships from 7 schools but narrowed it down to 3. Michigan, Michigan St., and Penn St. I guess I'm going All-Big Ten this year. Get it? All Big Ten, like all Big Ten schools and All-Big Ten players? Nevermind. But late I got offered two scholarships from two top teams but they were far from home. #1 Georgia and #? Oklahoma. I couldn't refuses being in the BCS running but they were far from home. I'll give an update when I narrow down more schools

Final Game

Our final game was on the road against Mount Pleasant. They were 7-1 and we were 6-2. It was all over local newspapers as being Game of the Week. There was so much hype for it. We were projected to lose by 3. The game started with them having the ball. They got stopped on 4th down by way of me. Yay! That set up a 23 yard FG by us. They scored on a big run by Randy Johnson to put them up 4. Walters showed he could score for us as he took a ball to the house. We exchanged scores and we were up 17-14 at half. I had 5 tackles in the half. Their QB was near perfect. Throwing everywhere but my direction. I couldn't do anything. The second half was like the game we wanted. It even extended into OT. Mt. Pleasant tied it with a FG from 26 yards out. Reynaldo hit Ricky Little for a TD. Now it was a game. There was 58 seconds left. We were up by 7. They had the ball at their own 45. Yalondo Daniely, Mt. Pleasant QB, drove them down the field. With them at our 25, 4th and 14 there was 23 seconds left and the clock was stopped. They called a play and looked as if it was the first play of the game. They just marched right up looking as if there was no pressure. Daniely dropped back and for the first time looked my way. He shook his head and threw it to the WR next to me he jumped stuck his arm out, pushed me down and caught the ball for the tying touchdown. I got up, furious, looking at the ref.

"C'mon ref, you didn't see that."

"I'm afraid not."

"He literally pushed me down!"

"I saw a clean catch."

"Come ON! You have to be kidding. Man up and make the call."

"Ok I will. (Over speaker)Unsportsmanlike Conduct, Number 22, Defense. 15 yards from the spot of the kickoff."

"WHAT!?!?!?"

(Pulled a little bit from the Longest Yard)

Overtime. Though it shouldn't be like this, it's exciting. Nerve-racking, but exciting. You think you have it but the first score wins. Anything could happen. We started out with ball we looked as if we were gonna score. But Percy Waters picked off Reynaldo and gave Mt. Pleasant great field position. Mt. Pleasant had the field goal but wanted insurance. They ran for 3 yards, then incomplete pass, then ran for 4 yards. Now with 4th and 3 ball on our 29. They elected to bring out the kicker and try from 46 yards out. He lined up, did a hard snap count, and hiked it. He nailed it perfectly and square it in the middle to send it flying. As soon as the ball left the holders hand I knew we lost. I was right. We were devastated. I blame myself for it.....wait no....I blame that crappy referree. Dang refs.

Stats: 9 tackles, 1 fumble forced, 1 Game Winning TD allowed

I promise this will get more interesting. You're probably thinking 'Oh he's the greatest. He'll to a top school, lead them to a title, blow through the NFL, and yadda yadda yadda.'

No you're wrong a big twist of events happens and then I'll play with him in 09 tonight
