vs. Stanford ![]() I knew this would be a huge opportunity for me. Duane Bennett was basically benched to start the game because of his fumbling problems. I didn’t know if that meant he’d be sitting all game, or just the first quarter. Coach Brewster didn’t really give a good explanation of just how long it would be. I think he wanted to give Thomas and I a chance to shine in a real game setting, but if it didn’t work out, he still could bring Bennett back in there. I started out pretty slowly again. It always felt like the holes were closing on the offensive line too quickly. I’d see a hole, sprint towards it, and then – bam – it’s closed down. I was able, however, to make some noise in the passing game. I caught a little screen, and bolted down the sideline for about 30 yards early in the second quarter, and it helped us set up a TD that put us up 14-7 at halftime. I finished the first half with 8 carries for 39 yards, and had 3 catches for 88 yards as well. Pretty good for one half, I thought…. ![]() Unfortunately, that’s all the playing time I saw on the day. Duane Bennett came back out in the second half, and although he wasn’t stupendous, he was solid enough, I guess. We ended up scoring again in the third quarter to take a 21-7 lead, and ended up winning the game 21-14. Even when Stanford scored their second touchdown midway through the fourth, it didn’t feel like the game was much in doubt. Coach told me after the game that I was doing a real good job, and that I had earned the right for some more PT in the upcoming games. It’s just a gradual thing, I guess. I understand the playbook a lot better now than I did three weeks ago, and I’m seeing the defenses start to “slow down” in my head, even if the numbers aren’t there quite yet. We’ve got one more non-conference game next week against Florida Atlantic, and then we face the big boys: Ohio State. They beat USC 27-20 in their big matchup this week, so they might be Number One by the time we play them. But I can’t think of that yet – I’ve got to focus on practices this week and get ready for FAU. Game Stats rush: 8 rush, 39 yards Game Stats catch: 4 catch, 88 yards Season Stats rush: 13 rush, 58 yards (3 games) Season Stats catch: 7 catch, 105 yards |

Florida Atlantic ![]() I knew that if we could pull a win out here, we would be 3-1 going into Big 10 play. Not too bad, I thought. FAU is a medicore team, and I thought I would be able to find a lot of holdes on the ground against them. Duane Bennett and I split time for most of the game, and I was picking up decent chunks of yardage, while he was struggling to get out of the backfield. In the second quarter, though, I finally did something special that may have separated the two of us... We were on the FAU 37, and I took a handoff towards the left tackle. I got hit in the hole, but managed to make a nice little spin move to keep my legs churning. I sprinted towards the outside, where one of FAU's defensive backs was closing in on me. ![]() I gave him a little shoulder fake, then spun right away from him as well.... ![]() From there it was just a footrace down the sideline, and I'm going to win those every time.... ![]() It was my first TD in college, a 37 yard scamper that really got the crowd fired up. I had to contain myself from ripping my helmet off in the endzone and picking up a penalty! We ended up crusing to a 27-10 victory. Not only did I score my first touchdown of the season, but I also broke 100 yards for the first time. I ended the game with 113 yards on 13 carries, and Coach Brewster really talked me up to the media after the game. I think he wants to name me the starter, but doesn't think it's a good idea for my first collegiate start to be next week at Ohio State. We'll see what happens, but I think my numbers are starting to show that I'm our best option back there in the backfield. Game Stats rush: 13 rush, 113 yards, 1 TD Game Stats catch: 5 catch, 30 yards Season Stats rush: 26 rush, 171 yards, 1 TD (4 games) Season Stats catch: 12 catch, 135 yards |

Re: The Diary of Michael Coleman
very nice game, you finally got your rushing yards higher than your receiving yards.
