Orlando's McGrady ejected after twice punting ball

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Orlando Magic guard Tracy McGrady was ejected from Friday night's game against the Denver Nuggets after twice kicking the basketball into the stands.

McGrady was upset that there was no goaltending call on his layup attempt in the waning seconds of the first half.

After McGrady stripped Carmelo Anthony of the ball, he drove the length of the court. His layup try, which would've brought the Magic within 58-57 entering the break, was swatted away by Denver's Chris Andersen.


The NBA's scoring leader ended his drive in a pileup under the basket, a look of disbelief on his face. McGrady then took the ball and punted it deep into the arena's lower bowl.

When a fan tossed the ball back on the court, McGrady grabbed it and again kicked it into the stands.

Two technical fouls were assessed, and McGrady's night was over after 15 points in 20 minutes. His ejection ended his streaks of 40-point games (two) and 20-point games (21).

Earlier in the quarter, McGrady reached the 10,000-point milestone. At 24 years, 272 days old, he's the second-youngest player to surpass that mark. Kobe Bryant was 24 years, 193 days old when he did so.

This is the second strange ejection during a Nuggets-Magic game in Orlando in as many years.

On March 15, 2002, Denver's Tim Hardaway tossed a small television set on the court following his ejection for arguing with the officials.
