He skated up behind the dude, cold-cocked him in the side of the head then shoved him down face first into the ice. Pushing his head and shoulders down into the ice. Gave the guy a concussion and fractured a vertebrae. This was premeditated and uncalled for. I agree charges should be filed as this was WAY over the line. I'm all for some violence and the role it plays in certain sports, lol, but this was wrong and he should pay. The NHL does a crappy job controlling their sport much like the MLB, so when they can't get their **** together, time for someone to step in, IMO.

He should serve a little jail time and the NHL ought to suspend his ass for a year or more.

I also find it hilarious that most NHL analysts play it off as normal. Say he should be suspended final 13 gms of regular season and like 1st round of playoffs. Are you kidding?? Just a perfect example of why these leagues suck compared to the NFL. The NFL has their league operating soooo perfectly right now. Just watching Donald Fehr's weak-ass attempt to defend the MLBPA's position on drug-testing was a joke. I hope someone sane in the union will bitch-slap his ass. (Acbates steps down from his soap box) Thank you. __________________ |

if i was a player i would never feel comfortable playing on the ice with him again.I mean please face the man before u hit him!!I think it would have been a little more accepted if the guy knew it was coming u know a so called legit fight. But to skate up behind a guy and do what he did i would never trust to be on the ice with him again.

Bottom line is this:
If you are going to suspend him, you have to suspend every player that gets in fights. Thats just the way it is. Its not like he used his stick to hit the guy in the face, like what previously happened a few years ago. Yes he may have decked him and threw him into the ice, but I have seen some crazier **** that has happened in hockey. Some fights are completely nuts, this one just happened to have a very serious outcome. No one complains when someone gets in a fight and loses a tooth or has to get 20 stitches above their eyebrow. Ok, the man almost died, so lets kick this guy out of the league. Sorry thats not fair. I am by no means condoning this, but if Hockey does indeed really want to punish this player, they have to set up all new rules and outlaw fighting all together. This is bull****. |

NHL decides on suspension
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...x.html?cnn=yes
TORONTO (AP) -- Todd Bertuzzi of the Vancouver Canucks was suspended for the rest of the regular season and the playoffs by the NHL on Thursday for attacking Colorado's Steve Moore. In addition, Bertuzzi's eligibility for next season will be determined by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman before the start of training camp. The Canucks were also fined $250,000. "We felt Todd Bertuzzi had given up his right to play the rest of the season," league vice president Colin Campbell said Thursday. "It was wrong. It wasn't anything else but wrong." Bertuzzi sat out Wednesday's 1-1 tie with Minnesota and will miss the final 12 games of the regular season, forfeiting at least $500,000. The suspension will amount to a minimum of 17 games if the Canucks make the playoffs and are swept in a first-round series. Vancouver is fourth in the Western Conference standings. Bertuzzi is the team's second-leading scorer with 17 goals and 43 assists. The All-Star forward slugged Moore in the side of the head late in Monday night's 9-2 victory by the Avalanche. He hit Moore from behind and drove his head into the ice. Moore landed face-first -- with the 245-pound Bertuzzi on top of him -- and lay in a pool of blood for several minutes before he was removed on a stretcher. Moore is out for the season with a broken neck. He also sustained a concussion and deep cuts on his face, and remained hospitalized in Vancouver. "I'm sure Todd Bertuzzi would like to turn the clock back, turn the calendar," Campbell said. "And I'm sure we've all made wrong decisions we're not proud of ... but we don't like it, we deal with it. We felt we've dealt with it right here and we hope Steve Moore and his family can get over this eventually." Canucks general manager Brian Burke also scheduled a news conference for later in the day. The previous longest suspension handed out by the league was 23 games, to Boston's Marty McSorley in February of 2000, and Tampa Bay's Gordie Dwyer in September 2000. In fining the Canucks, Campbell ruled that while the organization did not encourage or condone Betuzzi's action, the franchise must accept some responsibility. Both teams had been warned by the league about retaliation for a hit by Moore on Canucks' captain Markus Naslund on Feb. 16. Naslund sustained a concussion and missed three games. "We felt they could have done more in this situation to control their players," Campbell said. "We don't feel they took the temperature down." Bettman, in ruling next season on Bertuzzi's eligibility, will take into account Moore's health and the progression of his recovery, Campbell said. The decision comes a day after Bertuzzi had an hour-long hearing at the NHL office in Toronto. Bertuzzi and Burke returned to Vancouver after attending the hearing. The player met briefly with teammates before addressing reporters. An emotional Bertuzzi apologized to Moore. "These comments are for Steve. I had no intention of hurting you," Bertuzzi said Wednesday night, reading a statement before the Canucks played the Wild. "I feel awful for what transpired," he said. |
