Arthroscopic surgery scheduled for Tuesday to determine cause of discomfort

Washington Wizards President of Basketball Operations Ernie Grunfeld announced today forward Jerry Stackhouse will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee to determine the cause of the continued discomfort he is experiencing. The surgery is scheduled for Tuesday at New York’s Hospital for Special Surgery.
“We have spoken with Jerry, our team doctors as well as Dr. David Altchek in New York and we feel that the surgery to determine the extent of the damage to Jerry’s knee is the best course of action at this time,” said Grunfeld.
Stackhouse had an MRI on Tuesday. Upon consultation with Wizards team physician Dr. Steve Haas and Dr. Altchek following the MRI, it was confirmed that Stackhouse suffers from chondromalacia, a wearing of the lining on the back of the knee cap. Dr. Haas and Dr. Altchek determined that arthroscopic surgery would be performed to investigate the extent the damage to the knee. Corrective procedures will be based on what is found in the knee.
“In spite of the rehabilitation work that I’ve been doing, I continue to experience pain in my knee,” said Stackhouse. “I haven’t been able to play up to the level I’m capable of playing and I’m hoping that this procedure will ease my discomfort so that I can get back and be 100% and help the team in any way I can.”
Stackhouse played in 70 games for Washington last season, averaging 21.5 points and 4.5 assists per game.
