Report: Yankees, Rangers agree on A-Rod for Soriano deal

MELVILLE, New York (Ticker) - The New York Yankees and Texas Rangers reportedly have agreed to a deal that would send superstar Alex Rodriguez to the Bronx for Alfonso Soriano and a minor leaguer.

Newsday, a Long Island-based newspaper, reported Saturday on its website that the teams have agreed "in principle" on the blockbuster deal, which would be among the biggest in sports history.

The report stated that only a "couple very minor technical details are still to be worked out" and that "all sides remain confident everything will be finalized within a few days," according to "a source."

Neither team was available for comment.

The trade would come less than two months after the Yankees' archrival - the Boston Red Sox - failed to acquire Rodriguez. The teams appeared to agree to a trade before the Major League Baseball Players Association stepped in.

Arguably the best player in baseball, "A-Rod" is owed a guaranteed $189 million over the next seven years, much of which the Red Sox wanted Rodriguez and the Rangers to pick up.

The Yankees are the richest team in American sports and the acquisition would push their already astronomical payroll over $200 million.

A New York native who still is only 28, Rodriguez won the AL Most Valuable Player Award in 2003 after hitting .298 with 47 home runs and 118 RBI for the last-place Texas Rangers.

As a lifelong Yankee fan , i will give up the following statements:

1) The Yankees, if you didnt think so before, DO buy (or at least try) Championships.

2) The Yankees are unarguably the most annoying team in baseball, and quite possibly professional sports.

just cuz they have all the talent still dont mean they will win it all team chemistry has proven the last couple years is more valuable than talent(angels and marlins).I just dont see how all those superstars are going to play together.A-rod in boston would have been a much better fit for him.

Yes they can. Their pitching staff is soooo shaky. They are gonna be like last years Blue Jays, lose many 9-8 , 10-9 games.

About chemistry between some of the players, think about it. A-Rod and Jeter, they have been friends for a very long time. But the X-factor for the Yankees is thier pitching. and if anyone is woundering, i am a huge Yankees fan

the one reason i belie that a-rod is a better fit for the yanks than in boston because he wont be the stand out star every night in ny. i've been a yankee fan since god know's when and i know for a fact there is always a hero every night whether it be the "Fall Classic" or the dog days of July, whether it be Aaron "Bleeping" Boone or whether it be Tino Martinez, or Giambi, or Dent, or Jeter, or the long list of players that have screwed the Red Sox over and over again. (hahahahahaahahahahah). A-Rod wont be the shining star on that team every game thats for a fact.
Here's a pottential list of the Yankess lineupand rotation:

1. Kenny Lofton-CF
2. Derek Jeter-SS
3. Alex Rodriguez-3B
4. Jason Giambi-1B
5. Gary Sheffield-RF
6. Hideki Matsui-LF
7. Bernie Williams-DH
8. Jorge Posada-C
9. Enrique Wilson-2B

1.Kevin Brown
2.Mike Mussina
3.Javier Vasquez
4.Jose Contreras
5. dont know. (sry)

That is just plain scary on paper. However, as seen, paper doesn't mean jack ish when it comes to the World Series the last few years. The Yanks will need their rotation to stay injury free to have a chance at taking the Crown this year.

i dont know man if they put a-rod at 3rd base u already have a chemistry problem a-rod is by far the better shortstop and they wont put him there because they dont wanna piss off jeter.you guys are all right though pitching for the yanks is a big question mark mussina is the only one that has proven he can produce on a consistent level.well we have to see like they say thats why they play the game.
