Let Bidding For Sapp Begin: Bengals Step Up
TAMPA - It took nearly two weeks, but a market for Bucs free agent defensive tackle Warren Sapp's services has been established.
The Cincinnati Bengals set it Tuesday when they began negotiations with Sapp's agent on what is believed to be a four-year deal worth $16 million. A source close to the situation confirmed late Tuesday that Bengals officials discussed the offer with Coach Marvin Lewis and later submitted it to Sapp. The source would not say how far negotiations had progressed, but Sapp's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, suggested a deal could be completed by week's end. ``I think by then [Warren] will be at somebody's press conference and [will] be holding up somebody's jersey,'' Rosenhaus told SI.com. That jersey won't necessarily be the Bengals'. According to Rosenhaus and SI.com, seven teams, including Kansas City, Oakland and Baltimore have expressed interest in Sapp. The Bucs don't appear to be one of the interested parties. Though General Manager Bruce Allen has often expressed a desire to re-sign Sapp, indications were late Tuesday that the Bucs would not attempt to match the Bengals' offer. There also were indications that the Bucs would pass on any offer made by the Raiders, Chiefs or Ravens, who are believed to be interested in signing Sapp only if he is willing to accept an average payout of $2 million a year. Rosenhaus, who did not return phone messages left for him by The Tampa Tribune, said last week that the Bucs had not made an offer to Sapp and that it was likely Sapp had played his last game for them. Should Sapp sign elsewhere, it would end an unparalleled nine-year run with the Bucs, in which he established himself as one of the game's all-time great defenders. Voted to each of the past seven Pro Bowls, Sapp recorded 524 tackles and 77 sacks for the Bucs. |

Playing for Marvin Lewis could be pretty enticing for Sapp.

inevadropit. The Bengals have signed Nate Webster from the Bucs and S Kim Herring from the Rams.
They were also thought to be the 2nd choice of Troy Vincent but then he chose Buffalo. They have been after Sapp and Bobby Taylor and hope to land one if not both. Bengals are the ****. |
