Waivers

Okay, what exactly is this (in simple terms) and what is the difference between "waiving" a player and "releasing" them???

Ok -- I'll do the best to explain this.

Once a player is released the player goes threw a "Wavier Period"

Meaning, Whatever team has the worse record the following season. (I believe) then your #1 on the Wavier Priority list.

Example - Mick Vick is released. Every team wants him so they put in a Wavier Request to the head NFL Office. Whoever has the highest Wavier Priority then they're able to get him and take on his contract.

If the player makes it threw the Wavier Period without anyone putting in a request then he is a Free Agent.

Now, but putting in a Wavier Request for someone, it means you take on there full contract from whatever team he is being paid from. If he makes it threw the Waiver Period then you can sign him for whatever you want since he is a Free Agent.

Hope I explain it the best I could. Any questions.. Go head and ask.

The worst team at that period. In the offseason it's who was the worst last season, during the season, it's who's the worst at this point.

Oh, is this what happened with Deion Sanders this past season? You know, when the Oakland Raiders were thin in the secondary, but the Chargers nabbed him before the Raiders did.

Yep. The Chargers didn't have a good record at the time. They knew if he went to the Raiders then they'd have a good chance of winning the SB and probably beating them once they played.

Of course Deion didn't come out of retirement because he wanted to play with Oakland not the Chargers. If Oakland actually got him then he would've played.

There are talks of a post trade deadline deal in the MLB, which would send Brian Giles and Jason Kendall to the San Diego Padres for some prospects.

I can see how Brian Giles and Jason Kendall would be acquired by the Padres, because the Padres have the worst record in the N.L. But, how would the Pirates acquire a player after the trade deadline?

Sorry if this may seem a tiny bit off topic, but it still relates to "waivers", and there's always been things in sports that I don't understand, and this is one of them.

Baseball waivers are stupid. I don't understand their point of trade deadline, when players like Mark McGwire get traded after teh deadline.

The Baseball Wavier system is a joke.

No deadline should be in place because teams can go right around that.

Yet, Baseball Players contracts are really expensive. So if a team blocks their request for the wavier and jumps in front of them, then thats a lot of money they'll be adding to their cap.
