Online thoughts..
I can already tell that online has a lot more to offer than last year. Crush the carrier, Jump Ball Battle, & Open Field Showdown, are all available online and add to the experience. It won't surprise me if I find myself playing some of the mini games more than the regular mode. Crush the Carrier gets pretty wild online.. I played that with Moz and we had Roy Williams and Sean Taylor. Both of us got to smack the taste out of TO's mouth, doesn't get much better than that.
Jump Ball Battle is a lot more fun online than against just the CPU. It's kind of a jetpackathon where you try and catch as many balls as possible. Having a player like TO or Randy Moss is a big help in this mode. Open Field Showdown is tough online.. because you have to make an open field tackle against a human opponent. It's not impossible though.. Moz hit me and Portis fumbled.. then he picked it up with Faulk and went the other way. The regular gameplay mode is definitely better than last year. There is a little more more of a strategic element this time around. If someone keeps trying to take the ball to the ground for instance, you can stack up the line and stop them from going anywhere. There is even a feature that lets you "cheat" against run or pass before the play. The game just feels more balanced this time around where a good defense can be just as important as having solid offensive threats. Right now I am really enjoying the game overall.. it's a lot deeper than last year. I don't know how the controls situation will fair long term for a lot of you guys, but this game is definitely worth a look if you are the type of person who frequently plays rushing attack in Madden. |

I've jumped online for both systems, but couldn't get a game going on XBox w/ anyone, so I'll try again tonight. As far as my thoughts w/ online, the game is extremely smooth. I played RAC a few times last night and there was virtually no lag on PS2, which is a good start. We played a pickup game, team game, and jumpball and each offered unique elements. I personally enjoyed the mini games online more than the game itself. All-in-all, looks like EA did an extremely solid job w/ the online component, we'll see for sure when the servers start getting busy.

Not nearly enough to find a game online, lol.
Not sure though. I would guess between 20-50, somewhere in there. |
