heh ... still if they had soft shadows, the shadow opacity that they are currently using would probably look correct, because the shadows would be very blurred just because of the fact that the stadium lights are far away from the ice surface.. i think its comparing apples and oranges to compare a real picture's shadow opacity which is heavily blurred due to natural soft shadows, whereas the game's engine doesn't have that capability.. also you gotta realize that they have to calibrate the xbox/ps2 for ntsc colors, so it might look a bit diff when you are watchign the game on tv.. remember most people arent going to be having their games hooked up to high-def TV's either so it might be hard to see the shadows unless they make them a little more visible.

Like bcrt said, these are all X-Box screens, and made for NTSC but the screen grabs are done off of a PC render - which means everything looks washed out.

By nature, a TV has a lot more contrast due to the loss of dot-pitch. So they make up for it by making colours muddy. The whites n that specular lighting will look very dull, and the shadows will look like real life - don't worry.

They had it right for awhile now, I doubt they'd regress in the graphics department, seeing as its something EA has always put a lot of focus into.

You can obviously tell that all of the ugi stuff is fake though. Ottawa's got scoring line 1 out? Then where's their right winger? :D

At least they have Vapor sticks now as opposed to those God-awful Jofa ones they had in 2004.
