A Great Foundation

In my opinion, EA has created a great foundation for the future versions, through basically totally building NHL 07 from scratch. This first product, is very good. The new gameplay, the skill stick and all that it allows us to do, the new AI are all good, though with lots of room to improve. And although the game is lacking alot of the small things, it is still very good. Atleast now we know that EA is heading in the right direction, as they have finally created a realistic hockey game which is also fun to play. EA made no secret that online options would be bare, and honestly in my opinion I prefer that they focued the majority of their efforts into the gameplay. I think we can expect greatness from NHL 08, and for now we have a very good game. Overall, I am very happy with 07 and look forward to playing the future versions.

I totally agree with everything you've said. This is a great start for this series and I can see it going forward. My guess is that 08 will focus on defence as this year was all about offence. They will add better defensive controls and make everyone happy. They will add more skating animations and goalie animations (why not with the best goalie in hockey right in your backyard:)) This will smooth out the skating and all the choppiness. They will add a season mode and possibly the Last Man Standing mode. The AI will get better because they will get to see the way the NHL is playing hockey this year when they could redesign their teams to suit the new NHL style, whereas last year, a lot of teams just had to deal with current personelle. It will get better, faster, and we should all be happy that EA decided not to post a CG version, but build an entire new game. Hats off to EA.

I agree.... it's a solid foundation to build on! I think there is plenty that can be done to get the user even CLOSER to the action. The skill stick should be exanded upon.

All of that said... I am still terrible at the game (and I like that)... haven't had time this week to really check it out fully, so I'm reverting to my teenage years tonight (Friday)... sorry baby, here are some fresh batteries... leave me alone now, I've got video games to play.

It's been a long time since a game compelled me to be such a geek!
