Clarky, Wake up!

I'm sure most (if not all) Flyers fans would agree that we'd like to see Clarke sign someone of value. We have Baumgartner but I think we should sign a decent forward, and someone else on defense (a mobile one). Who agree's? Any free agent ideas?

I know he's a RFA with Anaheim, but I think Andy MacDonald would look good in a Flyers jersey. Heck, anyone would.

Eric Lindros is avaliable ..Or maybe we should sign him and trade him for Forsberg, prospects, draft picks and money :D

I like this guy.

I like this guy a lot.

:D

As an impartial observer of the Flyers, the thing that I don't get is why they haven't really done much to improve the speed on the back line. The entire first round the Sabres ran circles around them in their own end. I realize you can't change it completely in an offseason, but atleast get moving in the right direction...

I think it's just easier said then done. Almost every team have that general problem but they have more cap room then the Flyers. Hopefully Clarke gets snappin and we pick up some useful players.

actually...

...i like what Clarke has done, and let me explain why:

it's all about Simon Gagne, R.J. Umberger and restricted free agency.

see, the Flyers had 101 points last season AND the team was ravaged by injury. no, i'm not saying Nolan Baumgartner is the second coming of Rob Blake and Lars Jonsson is the second comig of Nicklas Lidstrom, but think for a second: Last season, CHRIS THERIEN was playing in the top six for the first half of the year. Eric Desjardins missed half the season, and Kim Johnsson was gone for the second half of the year and the playoffs.

Baumgartner and Lars Jonsson CAN'T BE worse than that. it's impossible to be worse than that.

but what people really seem to be forgetting is that Gagne's a restricted free agent, and so is Umberger. not only is Gagne looking at a HUGE RAISE, if Clarke blows his load on some unrestricted free agents and doesn't leave enough room to match some jerkoff's offer sheet to his best player...well, let's just say the masses in Philly would look a little like this:

again, the Flyers had 101 points last year. no, they're not a perfect team. but they have addressed their needs, at least before training camp, and no rival team's going to be messing around and signing Gagne to an offer sheet that the team can't match.

because you watch: some a-hole's just waiting to drop that little trick on a capped-out team. remember when Clarke did it to Tampa Bay for Chris Gratton back in '97? didn't work out well, but that doesn't mean the next one won't.

I see what your saying. Gagne > Any other free agent. :D
Which, is true.

Baumgartner will add speed to the blueline, as will Jonsson if he is on the big club. Jones and Picard would also make them faster, and to be honest it wouldn't surprise me if they put Kapanen on the blue line as well.

I also like what Clarke has done.....keep the core group of youth on the team together, and don't sell the farm on overpriced free agents. Some of the contracts being thrown around the past few days has been ridiculous.

Great post. You've successfully convinced me not to be pissed off. :D I'll still be surprised if Clarkie doesn't snatch up a UFA winger. Anybody agree?
