According to tsn's sister station, rds has announced that Alexei Kovalev has rejected the Habs offer and will be testing the free agent market before making a decision on where he's gonna sign. Gainey did say though not to count Montreal out of it yet. You can find the news on rds website.

I wouldn't want to stay in Montreal if I was Kovalev. He didn't really fit into the system the Habs were playing until the playoffs. The guys was a healthy scratch on more then one occasion in the regular season if I remember correctly.
