Reebok acquires shares of The Hockey Co.

CANTON, Mass. (AP) -- Reebok International expects to complete its acquisition of The Hockey Co. Holdings Inc. next week in a deal that will give the footwear and apparel maker its first presence in hockey.

Reebok, which announced plans for the acquisition on April 8, said Thursday that it has acquired 92 percent of the shares of the Montreal-based maker and marketer of hockey apparel and equipment.

Remaining shareholders will have until the close of business Friday to tender their shares, with the acquisition expected to be completed Tuesday. Reebok said it has secured all regulatory approvals for the deal.

``Our acquisition of The Hockey Company is an excellent strategic fit for Reebok,'' said Paul Fireman, chairman and chief executive of Reebok. ``The Hockey Company's primary brands, CCM, JOFA and KOHO, are among the most highly recognized and respected performance brands in the world of hockey.''

The Hockey Co. has a 10-year licensing deal with the NHL beginning next season.

So, how long until Reebok gets rid of those names all together, just like Nike did when they took over Bauer? Do you think they'll start with skates, pads or jerseys?

I dont think they will change the name any time soon, although it would be cool to see Giguere in some Reebok 580's LOL

Nike didn't get rid of the Bauer name though. And judging by this comment, "The Hockey Company's primary brands, CCM, JOFA and KOHO, are among the most highly recognized and respected performance brands in the world of hockey.'' I think it's safe to say the names will be sticking around. I think a good question would be if we'll see Reebok's name showing up on any equipment or merchandise?

Hockey isn't hockey without CCM.

If anything add a Reebok line nect to CCM, JOFA and KOHO.

isnt this old news, i heard this a few months ago. The names will NOT be changed...the companies are juist under different ownership

Yes, but now it is mostly official. For the record though, NIKE has been putting its name on jerseys instead of Bauer and I wouldn't be surprised if Reebok did the same. Leaving JOFA, CCM and KOHO for stick, pads, helmets, etc. Not like it really matters what the name is that is on the product. CCM and KOHO jerseys don't differ all that much even though they are seperate divisions of a larger corporation.
