Ducks shopping Salei and Sykora

While labour uncertainty is chilling the marketplace on many fronts, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim will be worth watching this week and the weeks to come.

The Ducks need to shed about $9 million in payroll. Defenceman Ruslan Salei, a restricted free agent who is eligible for arbitration, is likely gone and in high demand throughout the league. The trouble is, in order to get Salei, interested teams are being told they must also take forward Petr Sykora, who earns more than $4 million a year on a long-term deal.
The Ducks may have to eat some of that salary, but they really need to move Sykora to make ends meet.

EDIT: ah, I see that they want to package the two. I wouldn't mind having them both, but how old is Salei?

Somehow I see those two going to the wings, assuming the ducks eat some of the salary, and the veteran wings that aren't expected to be back (ie: Hull, Chelios) don't come back.

Hmm, well the oil still need a sniper or too, Sykora with his 4 millionish dollar contract could fit the bill perhaps...

This is really dissapointing for me, i thought Sykora has easily been one of our best players in the last two seasons, i mean Prospal is making 3 million..why cant we get rid of him?

I guess i just hope the young talent we get in return for him will work out. This really irks me though. I think id sooner trade Fedorov.

Too bad that the Ducks can't afford them. They are a little overpriced, but are both quality players.

I think Sykora is worth 4 million, when he first came to the Ducks I really think he took a lot of pressure of Kariya, because he was a genuine scoring threat and teams had to make sure and watch for both of them and not just Paul. He led the team in goals that year too.

I don't know if they'll get much interest if they package them. They just want to get more return. If they shopped them individually, it would be easier to move them. I just don't see any team ponying up the young talent it would take to get both of them. I'd love to see either or both of them in Philly, but it's just not worth the youth that the Ducks want in return... especially with no 1st or 2nd rounders this year.
