Former agents sue Wild's Gaborik
Associated Press
6/26/2004 MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota Wild winger Marian Gaborik is being sued by his former agents, who believe their ex-client owes them fees, the Star Tribune reported Saturday. Allan Walsh and David Schatia, partners at Beverly Hills Sport Council, began representing Gaborik before he became the Wild's first pick in 2000. They negotiated his entry-level deal, but after lengthy contract negotiations led to a holdout last year, Gaborik eventually parted ways with Walsh and Schatia and hired agent Ron Salcer. Salcer negotiated with the Wild for a $9.2 million US deal. Generally, an agent representing a player of Gaborik's stature would receive about three per cent of a contract. So Gaborik, an all-star in 2003, owes someone about $275,000. Walsh and Schatia, who filed the lawsuit through the NHL players association, believe they deserve that money even though they didn't negotiate his contract to a conclusion. ``I think it would be inappropriate to make any comment,'' Schatia told The Associated Press on Saturday. ``This is a matter that's being held by the P.A. and it'll be resolved.'' Salcer and Neil Sheehy, who will represent Gaborik in the lawsuit, didn't immediately return phone calls http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=89094 __________________ Don't tell me baby, tell all your friends. |
