customizable league rules?

is there currently a way to edit the league's rules, or will there possibly be in the future?

that's the only reason why i haven't gone out and bought this game yet. there's no way that the NHL will ever play another game in a CBA similar to the previous one, so i didn't want to start a new franchise mode deal with that CBA... i want to be able to edit what the league rules are... if i want a salary cap, and let me set the $$ values. let me choose the age of unrestricted free agency. let me set the roster limits... let me change the number of games in a season. move the trade deadline forward or backward.. change the playoff or overtime formats...

if these were all possible to edit, i'd buy this game in a second... but to play under a set of rules that's not used anymore is hard to warrant the cash for me.

All the rules and settings are set with all the leagues' 2003-04 rules and settings -- one reason why you have to start with the 2003-04 season and not 2004-05 or any other season. Certain things can't be put in, especially in the NHL, because the NHL won't allow it. It's meant to be a realistic sim based on the actual leagues in the game, so drastic changes aren't allowed. There's very little you can edit and change with NHL.EHM. There is a third-party editor, but you can't do any of those things with it.

Also -- the next one's player/team/league database is already being worked on (with me helping again :D).

Well ... only if the new CBA is done. If not,

Never a good idea to guess when SI games are going to be coming out. The databases are just now being passed around (I just got my Chicago Blackhawks/Norfolk Admirals one yesterday). For the first version, the team DBs were sent out around Sept/Oct 2003 (leagues ones earlier), and the game didn't come out until July 2004, after being delayed at least three times.

if the new cba isn't done by next summer, then i'm not sure if i'd be interested anyway... by that point, i can't imagine wanting to play anything NHL related ever again.
