Cool Shawns Washington Capitals EHM Franchise

WASHINGTON, D.C. - June 2004 - The Capitals made a long term move in Firing Steve Tambellini for untested GM Shawn Mayzes. This is Mayzes first venture as an NHL GM after an honorable carreer as a hired grunt got Electronic Arts.

Currently the team is in off season mode with signings and upgrades to be made.

The team budget stands at a $30,249,500 budget. I don't plan to have it change too much, as I prefer youth over veterans. Most veterans over the age of 32 will be traded or their contracts will be bought out unless they are a pivitol member of the hockey club.

The only player on the NHL club is over 32, and that is Olaf Kolzig, Olie is considered a strong focus of this club as we bring in new goaltenders. I would like them to learn from Olie until he retires. Any other players older in age will expect to be leaders in the lockeroom, on the ice, and off the ice. I want a strong core group to centralize the team around. Spare parts may come and go but every player will be given a chance to become a part of the group.

Currently the team needs to sign the following players:

Code:
Position Name Contract Team Goal Rastislav Stana RFA Portland Pirates Right Wing Dainius Zubrus RFA Washington Capitals Center Petr Sykora RFA Unknown
I am unsure of where I am going to place Petr Sykora, I may invite him to camp and evaluate from there, but he's a wildcard for getting a contract this year.

The forward lines currently stand to look like this, but of course this can change at any time as trades and signings come up. Right now we need to fill the voide at LW.
Code:
RW C LW Dainius Zubrus Jeff Halpern Alexander Semin Brian Willsie Jared Aulin Matt Pettinger Stephen Peat Trent Whitfield Darcy Verot Graham Mink Brian Sutherby Brooks Laich Jonas Johansson Petr Sykora Owen Fussey Tomas Fleischmann Garret Stroshein Jakub Klepi Boyd Gordon Jason Ulmer
I'm pretty happy with the first couple lines on D. I like the young aggressive talent I have so not much will change with the first few lines on D.
Code:
Brendan Witt Steve Eminger Josef Boumedienne Jason Doig Shaone Morrisonn Nolan Yonkman Jeff Paul Jakub Cutta Michel Périard Louis Robitaille
Like I said earlier I am expecting Kolzig to lead the likes of Maxime Ouellet & Rastislav Stana. I am expecting Maxime Daigneault to push Stanafor the starting job on the farm club. I'm almost expecting Daigneault to be with the pro club as a backup in 2-3 years, possibly forcing me to trade Stana or Ouellet. Only time will tell, but for this upcoming year I have a lot of pride in my goaltender stock.
Code:
Olaf Kölzig Maxime Ouellet Rastislav Stana Maxime Daigneault Justin Eddy
As for prospects emerging and playing this year I can see the follwing player pushing for a job
Code:
Alexander Ovechkin

good luck, jolly-green... be careful with that "low budget" mentality... it might get difficult when ovechkin starts demanding the big bucks, and actually DESERVING it...
