I thought it was really good premier episode I like the old call backs to the older seasons. The small town winter setting really gives the show a whole new feel I would recommend any old fans of Dexter to give it a watch they got back some of the writers of the early seasons back which is promising.

No, but I plan on it soon. I have been rewatching Dexter. I'm about halfway done season 7. I remember hating the seasons after season 4, but I've enjoyed them all so far. I mean, no one has come close to John Lithgow's character in season 4. I think I'll skip season 8 though. The last episode was awful and that's what might have influenced my thoughts on the series. I've heard good things about New Blood.

Glad to hear it is good. Dexter is one of my favorite series.

Is it more like the earlier seasons? A little goofy but still dark? Or is it a bit more soap opera'y like the later seasons?

Probably a mixture of both but for the premier it was alot less dark until the end but I will just say there was a satisfy death to a character that really felt enjoyable which gave me old school Dexter vibes.

watched it last night. i love the setting, im a sucker for those little quaint picturesque snowy mountain towns, particularly in 4k. good to see dexter back, he's aged well, made a nice new life for himself dating the chief of police and working in the hunting shop.

the rest was pretty iffy. ten year clean streak down the drain after a bit of anecdotal evidence and a rant from a jealous and jilted drunk, stoned and coked up guy at a party. felt weak. will watch the 2nd episode but not holding out for any significant jump in quality

It was an alright first episode. I like that it blends the original Dexter formula with a new setting. The writing felt a bit lazy however. Hopefully it will get better in the next episodes.

@Macutchi: Yeah I thought his return to Dexter Morgan felt rushed. Like the writers just wanted to get it over with. He'd been supressing his Dark Passenger for 10 years and all it took was a mere jackass to set him free and have a change of heart with regards to Harrison. Dexter was always far more methodical than this.

@johnd13:yeah that was how i saw it too.

maybe living the quiet, small town life for ten years has softened his sociopathic resistance to normal human emotions and he's become less calculating and methodical, and more susceptible to things like impulse. or maybe i'm just making excuses for flimsy writing ;) hopefully episode 2 gets a bit closer to the dexter of early seasons

I'm enjoying it. I'm caught up and looking forward to the next episode. Wish they all came out at once. I was binging the original series before starting this one and I was used to watching 2-3 episodes a day. I'm liking the setting and the characters. I find what Dexter is experiencing with Harrison equally as interesting as the sniper and missing women.

@SOedipus: I like the direction they're taking with Harrison. They could have focused entirely on Dexter with some additional father-son drama when he eventually discovers that his father is a serial killer. But that is already done and explored in the original series with Deb. What I'd like more of is Dexter indulging in his Dark Passenger's desires and how that fits with the overarching narrative of the sniper. And I believe we'll get that in episode 5 according to the preview.

@warmblur: just caught up to ep4. it's actually turning into a really good show. very easy to watch. and surprisingly light hearted with just a little edge of sinister in there. fortunately not wandered too close to the teen high school drama it threatened to be in ep2 too

did not like ep5.

left it on a potentially interesting cliffhanger as old and new worlds seem to now be on a collision course, but only after a series of overly convenient and serendipitous events that stretched credibility to breaking point.

dexter admitted in a previous episode "abstinence has made me rusty" but now it feels less rusty and more just reckless and naive. the dexter of old looks to have gone and left behind this bumbling jim lindsay character.

next episode could be make or break

For me I didn't hate it but I can understand why you didn't like it. I'm just glad they are not dragging out his fake identity story line out any longer.

Don't have the streaming service but wouldn't mind catching up when I can. Wonder if fans will be happy with this reprise as I remember they were not happy about the last seasons and how the show previously wound down.

Did anybody watch the finale?

I have to say I liked the ending for me the new season felt like it repaired some of the damage from the old finale it was enjoyable.

Season overall was enjoyable but suffered from less than great writing. The last two episodes were good but felt like there was a sudden switch in dexter and his behavior given the rest of the season. But a switch that seemed true to the character, just one that was clumsily handled and probably should have been more of a thing for the rest of the season even though it kind of was through Deb and her words but that didn’t jive with a lot of this season outside of the first episode and the last couple. Overall an ending that makes sense for the series as whole, just not one the show exactly earned.

I thought the finale sucked. Brought back memories from Season 8 of Dexter. The overall season for New Blood was pretty solid, however. There were some really good episodes unlike Season 8. Ha, both finales have the same rating on IMDb.

The finale and last week seemed like the show suddenly remembering what it should have been doing all along. Which felt disconnected from rest of the season but an ending that makes a ton of sense in the grand scheme of things. Just clumsily handled

While I was hoping for a different ending, I think the finale was meaningful and did justice to the character. It certainly "fixed" the previous ending.

enjoyed that. i liked that the plot didn't drag its feet. things kept escalating all the way to the end.

when ange burst into tears after logan wasn't answering his phone or walkie talkie, realising he was probably dead, it was like well yeah you've left him all alone with the bay harbour butcher who you've trapped in a jail cell and told you're going to see to him get the death penalty, you may have underestimated what you're dealing with a little lol. that was quite cool.

was not quite the ending i wanted / expected but it worked. sort of. in the letter to hannah he wrote he had to die to save his son, that was good. he was ultimately right just not in the way he thought. and we're left wondering if harrison killing his father will have exorcised his demons or just fuelled his dark passenger. seeing at the end that harrison knew about that letter and knew how much his father loved him and still did what he did makes me think the latter. harrison follow up inevitable?
