Are you a fan of the Gamespot forum ads?

First they were infrequent now they’re happening more and more. wondering how obnoxious it will get before we all just leave 😆

in case you somehow don’t know what I mean..

My bother is with the front page of Gamespot; the visual design of the content is indistinguishable from an ad. Place really needs an update.

If you didn't mention about those ads, I would have not even noticed they were here.

They are a minor annoyance. I'd prefer not to have them, but it doesn't bother me much.

Yeah, to be honest I only come here for the forums and maybe just to see what the headlines say to stay abreast of release dates and news. I don't even read the articles themselves unless they're actual articles and not clickbait or ads-in-disguise.

I haven't seen any ads on any websites since they introduced adblockers, and, if I can't use a site without an adblocker, I will stay away from it.

Imagine not using an adblocker.

The design in general for this forum is just, terrible.

It was absolutely fine before but they seem to have someone brainstorming ways to make it incrementally worse over time.

weirdly i only see ads (well im aware of them as obvs use an adblocker) on desktop. on mobile, where you cant use an adblocker, i dont see them. although the mobile site is so bad if i am forced to use it i view site in desktop mode.

as far as the site design goes ive said it before ill say it again, this forum is in maintenance mode, no improvement work is being done or will be done. occasionally when the servers fall over someone will get a call to reboot, that's it

Yea I was using desktop mode on my phone. But yes, looks like I need to use ad blocker because GameSpot is getting desperate. And you’re right, this forum is on Its way to going kaput.

My vpn works as an adblocker and I don't see them unless I'm surfing on my phone without my vpn on, but also I have an adblocker as well.

I just assumed they use cookie based ads that tailor ads to what they think is relevant to you based in things like your browsing habits and key words they pick up off your microphone, I can't view the app data sharing because it's not compatible with my device. I've always used the browser based access myself.

Once in a while the site uses ads that get flagged as security vulnerabilities because of their scripts. But, they don't pick and choose ads that are shown, rather, they use services that tailor ads from information they can access from users. Years back they were using ad services with malicious scripts embedded that would redirect to malicious sites (those "you won a free iPhone" bullshit), and they stopped using those ad services because of that.

But the Ask The Mods Forum is essentially dead they never responded to my complaints about their ads being flagged as security vulnerability so I started using more ad-block features to eliminate those concerns.
