Fox

It's over for netflix

The Empire Strikes back, Aladdin, and tons of classic films Neflix your reign of terror is over.

Only one service has the catalogue that can beat everyone else.

"Reign of terror"? Competition is good, it wouldn't be beneficial for the paying public for any service to "crush" others.

It very well could be a worthwhile streaming service. And, I just googled this, it's only $7/month. It could be worth it for the Marvel stuff alone as actual movie characters are getting their own shows, I mean yeah it won't affect the movies themselves, but I'm very interested in the Loki series.

Personally though I couldn't care less about what streaming service ends up on top. That doesn't really affect me. I get Netflix from my parents, I get Youtube TV from my in-laws who recently got that, and I share my Hulu Plus with both of them. I'm definitely dropping Hulu after this year though, way too many ads and I don't really use it very much, plus it's going to be more than a buck a month after this November (it was a black friday deal) so they got my $12, don't need or want them any more. Maybe I'd get Disney plus or maybe I'll yo-ho it, we'll see. $84/year so......we'll see.

Yup, agreed. Disney is already basically a monopoly at this point and it makes billions off box office alone. Everyone else is essentially the underdog.

I'm kind of over Netflix; outside of the occasional gem (Mindhunters, most recently), they really just have a lot of mediocre crap.

Between Amazon Prime Video (+HBO), Hulu (that I get included with my Spotify sub), and soon Disney+ I just don't feel like I need Netflix any more.

Because Netflix content is variable country to country, some places like the UK get absolute shit, with all the modern movies being stolen by Sky.

If it wasn't for all the great Kung Fu movies, Chinese/Korean stuff and being able to watch Nerd Trek at any time instantly, it would have been binned some time back.

And yea, I know you can use VPN, but you shouldn't really need to in the first place.

If Disney can back shows with their advertising power I'd like some of my fave Netflix content creators to make the jump. Netflix is lazy with advertising so shows end up canceled through no fault of their own.

That's kind of the point, really. We've been seeing the slow-motion fragmentation of the streaming industry, and in 2020 it's slated to kick into the next gear. We're probably going to see a la carte streaming "channels" with some bundling services thrown in like the old cable model.

Which is unfortunate for the consumer in the short term because it means the money-losing content buffet is dying, but it's healthier for the industry overall. Right now there's too high costs creating too much content for too little subscription money - something has to give, and we're probably looking at a further adjustment of all three in the coming years.

It's funny that the more competitors there are in streaming service, the less the value for the consumer.

God creates Man. Man creates Netflix. Netflix destroy good content. Women inherit Earth.

Marvel and Star Wars - the most overmilked cows in the history of media. Why would anyone give a shit about them at this point?

I've still only have Netflix for the kids. So I'm getting Disney+ as soon as it comes out for a hopefully better replacement.

I'll stick to watching the shows I have on DVD and Itunes in addition to free (Ad supported) Crunchyroll, thanks. Disney's charged way too much for their DVDs for me to support their streaming services and plus I don't really care about most of Disney's franchises. As for Netflix, I dropped it after it kept suggesting programs akin to pseudo pornography in my book.

competition is normally good, but for Streaming its not been so far, the more competition the less value there has been for the consumer.

The services arnt really innovating, there just buying what ever content they can label as exclusive to their platform to gain subs.

To not miss any big shows, you need to be subbed to Netflix, Prime, and now Disney.

I'd rather one company have the monopoly here so we only have to pay for one sub.

@LJS9502_basic: That's the whole reason why I dropped Netflix. See, most of what I watched was biased on science or historical events, some movies but mostly documentaries on that front. There was also some Anime I watched, such as Sword art online, Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, and Kuromukuro, but nothing that should have justified Netflix suggesting Pseudo-pornography.
