I used to look up to athletes, now I don't care about them 😆 Don't really care that much about sports in general these days. Same with actors although there are definitely some I could appreciate like Tom Hanks! Will Smith was a cool dude back in the day, but "the slap" definitely changed my perception of him.

How about you, OT? What public figures did you look up to growing up and what do you think of them now?

I looked up to Captain Caveman until someone told me he wasn't real. That was a rough Junior year in college.

My role model was Michael Jordan. It wasn't just the fact that he was an amazing basketball player, it was the way he carried himself. His style, swagger, charisma, stage presence, confidence and his ability to predict plays before they happen; he was almost like a rock star. I don't know what he's doing nowadays -- probably swimming in all the money that his shoes make. :P

Big fan of MLK Jr.

I really like public speakers, not just well-spoken ones, but speakers that actually sound like they believe in what they say. I feel like I have a pretty good sense of bullshit when I listen to people so it is hard for me to really buy into what most public figures say.

None really but when I was into skateboarding in the early 90's I would watch these old VHS tapes of pro skaters and I wanted so bad to be able to do their tricks I was in awe to me they where the coolest people on the planet at that time.

i never really had anyone i looked up to as a kid or was interested in meeting. even now when asked the question of who i'd love to meet to have dinner with or whatever, i have no good answers.

that's not to say i'm not impresses with people's accomplishments, just never that interested in actually meeting them or wanting to emulate them.

My grandma watched a lot of Evangelical Christian TV when I was growing up, so I really looked up to guys like Kenneth Copeland and Benny Hinn.

What do I think of them now? Obvious snake oil salesmen who exploit vulnerable people for a lot of money.

It was William Wallace.

It's actually Robert The Bruce now.

The thing to remember, back in 1997? When Braveheart come out it had a huge effect on the Scottish. But the fact is many of them never picked up a book and read history, and that movie is fantasia.

If you actually read what Robert The Bruce accomplished, the shit he went through and how long it went on for. Regardless of character follies, he went through hell to enjoy heaven for 30 seconds. He should have been dead 1000 times over.
