AMD already competes. The only way Nvidia can surpass them in performance is by putting so much cost into the GPU they have to charge you $1100 for one. I can surpass what a 2080TI provides you for lower cost using AMD GPUs and use the money saved for a better CPU or more RAM. You should probably stop listening to Nvidia's paid sponsors on Youtube.

Well, they plan to show a demo of RDNA2 GPU with ray tracing cores, so I bet that they will release a 2080 competitor this year. The issue is that by that time nvidia will already have 3000 series.

They might try, it's just not looking too great, Ampere will most likely kill whatever they can manage to put out, the big navi cards should have been out by now if they wanted some presence.

Hints: Double Pitcairn GCN (dual SE, 32 ROPS, 256 bit memory bus) = Hawaii GCN (quad SE, 64 ROPS, 512bit memory bus which later evolved into HBM with Fury).

NAVI 10 has dual SE with 256 bit memory bus, hence history may repeat itself.

It's all over the news:

https://www.techspot.com/news/83510-mysterious-new-amd-radeon-gpu-has-beaten-rtx.html

https://www.techradar.com/news/amds-high-end-navi-gpu-could-be-30-faster-than-nvidias-rtx-2080-ti-rumor-hints

https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/mystery-amd-gpu-beats-2080-ti-openvr/

If this is true then that would mean it's a competition for Nvidia's top end RTX3080 that will be coming soon I guess (2080 was release around Sep 2018)

Assuming this is all true, (I admit, I'm a Nvidia fanboy on their GPU side) I could see myself buying whatever AMD has up on their sleeves to match 2080Ti for a fair price. ($800) Beam me up scotty.

I hope so. Last decade AMD's excuse was not having any money to put into R&D but they can't use that excuse anymore (current gen consoles sold like crazy + they got the rights to the next gen, all 3 ryzen generations have sold good, APU market was strong last decade as well).

They have money now so now it's time to actual go out and do something (hopefully they dont' do the usual give nvidia type performance 6-12 months late with same price)

Like the Radeon 7 it will be too little to late, a bigger Navi GPU will compete with a 2080 or 2080 Ti but Nvidia are about to drop the 3000 series of cards.

5700 and 5700 XT have proven to be just slightly slower and slightly cheaper than Nvidia cards in the same price range so its not even going to be a bargain OMG look at this performance type of deal like the past.

People need to stop hoping that AMD are going to release a GPU for 1/2 price of a Nvidia GPU at the same performance. These companies are in a cahoots and will not do that one bit.

What we as PC gamer's need to realise is WE are being ripped off all together, AMD is throwing in a 56 CU GPU into a $600 console and WE are probably going to pay $500-600 for the same GPU in desktop form.
