Robotron 2084 in the arcade and its ports no question!
A true classic.
"retro" is a lame term as a good game is a good game. Over the years I've realized that the truly great games are in the minority.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Assault 2 on PlayStation (PS1) and I put hours into that game cause it was an improvement over the first Battle Assault. I always felt Battle Assault 2 was ahead of it's time as the best Mobile Suit Gundam game but it was really good to introduce G Gundam. Battle Assault 3 was a letdown.
If I'm to choose between Kaettekita Cyborg Kuro-Chan and Bishi Bashi Special 2..I chose the latter...cripes; that game glued my kiddie gaming chair for weeks,it's even better with a friend to play it.
I would have to say Final Fantasy VII. I don't know how much hours I spent on that game. I played it all day on Saturday and Sunday trying to max out on all material and trying to get each of the person last weapon. I remember I beat the last guy within a min because my guys were so strong.
There are many, its too hard to pick just one. Pokemon Red/Blue, Sly Cooper, Super Smash Brothers, Starfox 64, Medal of Honor, Mario: Six Golden Coins, Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, etc.
Spyro, Spider-man and Crash Bandicoot Warped for me. I had a SNES with Super Mario World and i love that generation of games. But the PSX is still my favorite.
For me, I have to pick this gem! I have always loved the Donkey Kong series and I always have the most fun playing them. To be honest, I haven't played another Donkey Kong since DK64. I was not entirely sure if there were other Donkey Kong specific games released after 64, but I see there was an attempt to keep it going. Again, I love and currently own the first three for the SNES, but this one, in particular, holds a special place.
@goldenagegaming: Just getting into retro gaming. Coolyfett would love to play Galaga when the opportunity came. Right now currently putting a lot of time in Zelda Link to the Past, Twisted Metal 2 & Megaman X on the SNESPlayStation mini. Need to get into a retro RPG once Zelda is completed.
Hmm, depends on the definition of retro I guess! Playstation 1 generation must qualify by this point, being 20+ years old, and most of my all-time favourites come from then, including FFVII-IX, Metal Gear Solid and Tony Hawk's 2. If we're talking 2D era though, it's gotta be Chrono Trigger, and SMB3 for 80s gaming.
My favorite retro game? That's a hard question. Final Fantasy 7/9, Chrono Trigger, A Link to the Past, Twilight Princess, Super Mario World, Mario Galaxy 1/2, and Smash Bros Melee are all contenders. Any of them would be a correct answer for me.
