I Love Da Bears 10/6
![]() Holy Neckbeard Batman...The Bears are in 1st! I'm still glowing over yesterday's dominating 34-7 win over the Lions. This season the Bears haven't played well when they are expected to win, and add to that the Bears were going to play without three defensive starters, I thought oh great, here is a loss. But Peanut Tillman ended up playing, and the Bears left out the dramatics and just curb stomped the Lions. I broke my regular Sunday ritual of sitting my ass on the couch surrounded by snacks, the remote to my right and the laptop on my lap and went over to my parents house. My pops and I were grilling out brawts and burgers for one last hurrah on the grill before the Chicagoland cold weather hits. Not only were we treated to some good eats, but probably the best and most complete game the Beloved have played since their Superbowl run two years ago. ![]() We found out yesterday Kyle Orton drives a Prius As Purdue alums we both had interest in seeing how Orton would do on the Bears when the drafted him in 2005. We saw that he was good at Purdue, but not great like Brees was. But what I'm seeing in Kyle Orton this season is the Orton I saw play at Purdue. The Kyle Orton who is confident to make the tough throws. The Kyle Orton who is accurate. The Kyle Orton who can take command of an offense and isn't just a game manager as he's been dubbed since coming into the league. No sir, this Kyle Orton is doing things for the Bears. You want to focus on Matt Forte, Kyle Orton and the passing game can beat you. Orton had his best game as a Bear passing for over 300+ yards and 2 TDs. He didn't commit any turnovers and some of the throws he made yesterday were big time throws. Granted it's against the Lions, but what you are seeing Bears fans is progress. What I love about Orton is you see consistency. You see solid play. With Sex Cannon you saw either very good play or very horrible play. You don't get the two extremes with Orton, and thats what I love about him. Hester and Forte accounted for three Bears TDs Orton wasn't the only one to play well Sunday. Greg Olsen caught a couple of big passes that lead to some big gains. It looks like he's put the two fumble performance well behind him. And with Brandon Lloyd missing the game Devin Hester started at WR and delivered. He had 5 receptions and a touchdown. Critics might look at the Bears running game and ask how the hell the Bears managed just 97 yards rushing and averaged 2.9 yards per carry against the league's worst rushing defense. Which is a good question, but hey when teams stack 8-9 men in the box at times, you're bound to have days when you can't run the ball. Yesterday we saw more of back-up runningback Kevin Jones, which is a very good thing. Last week I wrote about my concern that the Bears are using Matt Forte too much. I thought this was a perfect game for Jones to play. The Lions had one of the worst rushing defenses in the league and Jones is playing his former team. The Bears might not have run the ball the way I thought they would, but they did use Jones quite a bit. In the broadcast I found out Jones was upset his former teammates didn't call him when he was cut to wish him luck. Of course after hearing that my pops and I joked the entire game after every carry he got. You could tell he was running with anger after not getting a phone call. ![]() The Bears defense shut Roy Williams up Lost in the aerial assault the offense rained down on the Lions, was the Bears defense. The defense could have easily pitched a shutout but a turnover on a punt gave the Lions great field position, but hey giving up 7 points when you're down two starters is great. What worried me about this game was Nathan Vasher not playing. I thought the Lions would be able to pass with Williams and Johnson. Peanut Tillman isn't 100%, but you wouldn't have guessed it after seeing his play yesterday. The Bears front four put pressure all day on Kitna, and were missing Tommie Harris. It was clear the Lions offense was frustrated. The receivers didn't seem like they were on the same page as Kitna, and Roy Williams couldn't hang on to the ball, dropping four passes. That didn't stop him from gesturing the first down signal while they were losing by 20+ points. Alright look, this is a very nice win. The Bears went out and beat a team they were supposed to beat. It was nice seeing them go out and kick the crap out of one of the crappiest teams in the league. They saved the dramatics this week and just dominated. The Bears go on the road to play the Falcons, who just won in Lambeau. Nothing is a given in this league, but the Bears have a very good shot at winning three straight. Enjoy this week Bears fans. Our team is in first place! The Good:
The Bad:
