Poll 2023 Best year in Gaming in 10 Years? Especially PC. (28 votes)

Yes. 61%
No. 39%

It's been a pretty good year gaming especially if you are a PC Gamer. Games or developers that started out on the PC made a huge comeback. Baulder's Gate 3, the series which started out on the PC won Game of the Year and a Perfect 10 on Gamespot. I was frankly surprised that Baulder's Gate 3 did this good. I mean Baulder's Gate 2 came out in the years 2000. Gen Z on this site who were born after 2000 were still in their diapers or not even born when the last Baulder's Gate 2 came out lol. :D I was surprised that it had a pretty good fan base. Maybe I am not that old after all lol. Remedy which started out on the PC got a Perfect 10 on with Alan Wake 2. Alan Wake 2 made use of heavy PC features like Ray Tracing and DLSS 3.5. We had excellent remakes of Dead Space (although I don't know if that was really warranted since we can play the old one on PC in 4K). Resident Evil 4 also had a remake which I would argue did make sense since it came out during the PS2/Xbox era with it's poorer textures.

On the console side had Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. On the fighting game side had Street Fighter 6 which was pretty good along with Mortal Kombat 1. There are too many others to name. Last time time I can think of coming this close was 2007 but not quite 2007.

Agree?

On a side note, today marks 15 years to the day on officially being on GS for me. :) Although I was lurking on the site 10 years prior!

You named nothing but sequels and remakes, most of which are tired. Screw this industry.

When the whole gaming industry been edging for two years because of covid, of course the release is strong. So to answer your question, yes, 2023 has been great.

No. The usual drab and overrated as hell. Especially BoringRing and Divinity3:WokersGate.

Its a decent year. not the best.

didnot care about BG3.

RE4-R is probably best third person action game I played since Max Payne and Mafia 1. and probably best third person action horror game.

Robocop is fantastic. amazing and sleeper hit.

Cyberpunk went from faliure to one of the best RPG game. RPG game with compelling gameplay mechanic is very rare.

Atomic heart was also ok.

2023 is definitely one of the best years ever, but it is not on the same level as:

S tier: 1998, 2001, 2004

It is however on the same level as:

A tier: 2008, 2010, 2011, 2020 and 2013

Which makes it better than:

B Tier: 2022, 2018, 2017, 2007, 2009, 2000 and 2015

A lot better than:

C tier: 2019, 2006, 2005, 2003, 2002, 1999, 1997, 1996, 1995, 1994, 1993

And then we have the trash years:

D tier: 2021, 2014 and 2012. The 3 years where not a single game deserved GOTY.

It was a good year, especially for PC, Xbox and Switch owners. Not the best, because the trend is remasters and superhero games…but I’ve found enough to play nearly 2000 hours on Xbox.

Agree Robocop was a surprise. I was also surprised for Cyberpunk and it's expansion. CD Projekt Red righted a wrong. Was surprised they added a 3rd ending. I was somewhat disappointed with ending of CP.

2007 belongs in S tier. Otherwise mostly agree for S tier especially with 1998 and 2004 with the latter being the greatest over the past 25 years.

I had fun with games in 2023. To say it's the best or one of the best years ever is a stretch though. Best in 10 years? Probably not.

We got plenty of good games in 2023, but other years have seen plenty of even better games.

Strongly agree, there has been soooo many great games this year that I honestly can’t think of a better year in this decade! And of course with BG3 as the crowning archivement, with it being arguably the best rpg since Planescape Torment and BG2!

It has indeed been a great year. Mountain of awesome games. And some of them are all-time, once in a generation type classics, like Baldur's Gate 3.

And if you're a PC gamer, it's even better. But that's true for any generation.

Yeah 2023 is one of the best years in recent memory.

Just tons of great games, from all areas. Independent and small-scale development continues to blossom and deliver just amazing titles, lot's of fun early-access games and betas and alpha, we got a great update to World of Warcraft that brought a lot of soul back to the game, and even the AAA space was less shitty than it usually is.

every single year is a good year for xbox because of gamepass. But 2023 was amazing, and while it might not be as good in 2024, xbox is just going to keep rolling along heck yeah.
