Glad to see that Capcom is still making their own engine rather than going for the Unreal Engine as many game companies are doing these days.

The RE Engine itself is still great and gave us some amazing games, so I'm interested to see what their new REX Engine will be like in the future. And what will be the first game to use it.

Definitely glad to hear, that engine is pretty good.

I just hope they have better ray tracing support and proper HDR rendering.

Yeah these seem to be lacking so far, as well as DLSS support.

But the RE engine was extremely scalable, from the underpowered 3DS right to a high end PC system.

Everyone is gushing over RE Engine, and i always thought it was trash because its one of the worst engines when it comes to physics, textures from up close are a muddy mess and geometry detail is very ps4.

That's cool, not really into fighters these days, but nice to seem them evolving.

That’s good to hear. They’ve created some absolutely fantastic games with that engine. Looking forward to seeing what they can do in the future.

@NoodleFighter: Why else would they call it REX? Rex, as in T-Rex, as in dinosaur, as in Dino-Crisis. It's so obvious. :P

The engine's alright, does the job well, but there certainly are limitations to the engine. We haven't even seen an open world game using this. Maybe DD2, but that's not out yet.

And if you look at the visuals of DD2, it looks extremely washed out. DD2 would look so much better with the HFW engine for example.

Cool. The whole In house vs using UE thing will be interesting to see going forward.

So far games from 3rd parties using the latest UE have been...er....a mixed bag. Whether it's problems with the engine or just devs not using the tools available to them in as an effective manner as possible is hard to say but hopefully things do get better.

There is no doubt that developing and maintaining your own engine, especially in the AAA space, is a huge undertaking. But having that in house knowledge of all the quirks and inner workings of it is really valuable.

@AcidTango: yep, I'm not sure how they do it...oh right never mind. They make fairly simplistic linear games.

Capcom and SquareEnix are the only Japanese developers that make technically impressive games on their own engine.

I heard it's using mesh shaders which I see people saying isn't a good sign for PlayStation. I've no reason why that would be, perhaps someone can explain. I have heard at least as far as Series X|S goes that the system was designed around mesh shader optimization whereas the PS5 wasn't, and this being suggested why Alan Wake II runs at a locked stable 60fps on Series X while variable 55-60fps on PS5.

Hopefully its an efficient current gen engine. Make it look nice for the PS5, Series X, PC and maybe Nintendo's next system if possible. Capcom wins, gamers win, everybody wins.

The comments about making it more accessible for overseas subcontractors suggests they might be planning to license out the engine to other developers, like Unreal Engine.

@Jag85: Seems like a good business decision. RE engine, from my knowledge has a pretty good reputation. So this could be a good time to capitalize on the floundering UE5.

T-REX

Dino Crisis or Resident Evil: Code Veronica X. It has to be either one of those.

Rigging giant animals with unique animation systems, that have to interact with each other and the environments, not to mention feed on the flaura and other fauna, is too expensive in already bloated AAA budgets. Resident Evil enemies are almost exclusively humanoid, much cheaper. I want a Dino Crisis, but would be shocked by the news.
