How do you like them apples?
That's what i expected to happen. One is "free" while the other is $70. Humilliate your opponent and still get the revenue from them. I'd do the same with Starfield/ES6, but make it as a six month exclusive on a Microsoft platform.
@Xplode_games: How is it free exactly?
For GP subscribers, they were going to pay $70 until Microsoft acquired Activision, now they will get it day one included with their membership. Meanwhile PC and Playstation owners will have to go ahead and pay the full $70.
That's about as free as you can get.
MS is so rich, if they had a choice in the matter and didn't care about upsetting the JD or ftc, they likely would have made CoD exclusive to screw over sony.
Instead, MS will continue to keep CoD multiplatform even in the future. Because if they make this game exclusive, future acquisitions by them will be much harder.

How would making CoD exclusive trigger any flags from JD or FTC?🤔
@Xplode_games: or PlayStation and PC players can just not buy it. Still blows my mind how many people buy those games, with how uninteresting it's been for over a decade.
@Pedro: its just a gut feeling. CoD is the biggest game on the planet, and MS acting predatory, making the game exclusive on their platform would have caused a ton of blow back. A few senators getting involved, calling them out for their practice wouldn't have been out of the question and lots of shouting for change. Yes MS can argue that in gaming, they're only the 3rd biggest, but overall they're number 2 in the entire world, only behind Apple. No one is being fooled by the innocent sheep act. They're wolves and that's how they should be.
End of the day, the ftc might have even adapted new laws to make future acquisitions harder, or even made the AB acquisition itself harder. Not to mention, the Europeans also look down on these kinds of practices as well. End of the day, MS has to play the good boy act.
The MS ceo even put out a letter a few months after the AB acquisition was announced, outlining their plan and even going as far as reassuring people they wouldn't make CoD exclusive. Why would they do that when they had no problem with making future Bethesda games exclusive? Obviously they were catching flack, and flack they don't need before the deal even closes.
I know it's all speculation but you'd be surprised how much high profile events like this are influenced by the court of public opinion.
All those extra revenues for people who have to play it on PS5 or Xbox/PC players that be like "derp, I wanna own my games not rent them", they can subsidize the growth and quality of Game Pass that I will enjoy for a nominal fee, and I can always own these games years later for a few bucks if I really really have to, and pick them up on some Humble Bundle summer sale for a few bucks.
Gamepass is not free.
LOL for all who don't have GP. The best value in gaming by far.
Price isn't a main issue for me, it's getting overwhelmed with games as I still buy loads of them and have a finite time to play them in.
I'll be subbing to gamepass soon though and playing:
Cows looking for any crumb of comfort regarding COD will leave the table crumb free.
If it's not exclusive, you are giving 70 to MS,and if it is exclusive, you lose PlayStation best selling game 🤣
@simple-facts: finance wars. Nice to see basement dwellers living vicariously through a corporations money. Let's see if you guys get any games from it.

Isn't that what cows do when they celebrate exclusives?
Exclusive ONLY benefit the corporation, no one else. It simply forces people to buy into an ecosystem. The corporations must be laughing all the way to the bank with fanboys actually celebrating this practice.
Think about it for a second. They get fanboys to actually celebrate the fact that only the owners of a said system can enjoy those games.
@blaznwiipspman1: Nothing you have stated indicates any existing or future laws that would trigger concern by the FTC or JD if a company takes the route of making thier software exclusive to their platform. There is no precedence for such a concern by lawmakers or the FTC. I am not sure why there is a concern now. Keep in mind you said that reason MS is not making COD exclusive is to satisfy/not upset the FTC or JD without citing a violation.
@Sagemode87:
You mistook me ripping the piss out of Sony fanboys,as me giving a shit about multi billion dollar companies revenue, sales and profits.
I'm here for cow tears,I get them by the bucket full 🤣

I did say I was speculating alot of it, theres no solid proof end of the day. But I do know that theres over 20 million ps5 owners, and most of them spent $1k on a ps5 (lmao) to play CoD. If MS pulls the game from ps5, things would probably turn ugly pretty quick. Thats 20 million people, all of them are voters lol. Many of them also own MS products outside of xbox. Causing so much butt hurt to so many people as a business, its just not smart. Thats the reason they sent that letter out a month or so after the AB acquisition to ease peoples concerns.
The way MS sees it though, they don't even need to make it exclusive to gain on market share. The game will literally be FREE on gamepass, and its going to attract people to the service regardless. On top of that, theres a chance that DLC will release a couple months early on the xbox as well. Carrot works better than the stick (not always), but in many cases it does.
New laptop coming soon
Options to play Xbox or PC under gamepass.
Oh thank you Microsoft, you are spoiling us.
What a fanboy comment.

Your on a fanboy forum.
If you don't like it, its quite easy just go elsewhere.
Doesn't escape the fact what I'm saying is true and correct.

A fanboy is never saying anything true or correct. Stop being delusional.

So you have never said anything true or correct.
at least you admitted it.

No need to do that. PS owners will all be buying Xbox consoles to play those two games since they are exclusive. More revenue for Xbox!
Game Pass is $10/month, and this will be one of hundreds of games for people to play. By contrast on PS5 side, just one game like FFXVI will cost around $70 to buy the disc copy and require two separate subscriptions to play (PS Essential and FFXVI online sub) totalling $25/month to play. And that's just to get ones foot in the door. The thing will be a marketplace of blockchain loot and MTX monetization economies.
"Free" is an absolute term. Of course it's not free, but, looking at the direction Square Enix wants to go with their Sony exclusive FFXVI, if it puts to shame the gross MTX extortion of GT7 by being much worse, well, CODMW2(#2) will start looking free, relatively speaking.
