Did Sony avoid revealing GOW was coming to PC during State of Play not to worry their fanbase?

The State of Play event of September had God of War Ragnarok as its crowning event. All tuned in, in the hopes of seeing that game. The Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection was a surprise announcement, especially that it was coming for PC.

Why didn't Sony announce GOW 2018 for PC then instead? GOW was the main event, a PC port coming alongside it would have made sense. Additionally, they already had a release date whereas Uncharted is just "Early 2022".

Why do you think they waited an innocuous day to announce GOW 2018 for PC? Fear of delivering too many goodies to PC at once? Maybe they were afraid this would send a message that Ragnarok would be coming for PC too?

Probably figured announcing two exclusives going to PC at the same show would get them too many death threats.

Because they focused on the upcoming sequel that's coming out soon, not the almost 4 year old original that they've already played 😄

Playstation fanboys are a psychologically fragile bunch, so probably for the best.

I would say that is the most likely scenario. History has definitely shown that some Sony fanboys take news of games going to other platforms VERY poorly. It can really chaff their buttocks. 😅

State of Play events aren't for their PC games.

There's a PS5 version of Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection so it wasn't just a PC announcement.

Probably because the Uncharted collection was also coming for the PS5. State of Play will always be a PlayStation first event.

GoW was a PC-only announcement, so it doesn't really fit.

Well Sony has encompassed PC under their new "PlayStation Studios" logo and initiative. PlayStation Studios' games for PC.

Plus these events are always more gear towards Sony's consoles, PC isn't exactly on Sony's radar cause it'll feel out of place for that kind of event. Best to announce a PC version on its own merit. I don't need State of Play to tell me a PC version is on the way.

Sure, but State of Play will always be a PlayStation first event. I think Sony are still working out how to promote their PC releases, but whatever formula they eventually settle on, they are most certainly going to do so separately from their PS-centric promotions.

Sony don't give a shit about cows, they lie about the hardware, cows turn a blind eye, they hike prices, cows turn a blind eye, they put all exclusives on another platform and cows turn a blind eye.

Sony will continue to bend cows over, and cows will take it hard and dry, pull their pants up and search for bad Xbox news, sad twats

Because the state of play is all about Sony. No need to talk about their competitors.

Why would it worry a fanbase to have more people support their favorite games?

We do so many things backwards in this hobby.

Uncharted is more relevant rn due to it's upcoming movie. Just another marketing trick. People will buy those old games too because of hype for said movie.

And? They focused their time on the sequel which is one of the most highly anticipated games of 2022. Uncharted concluded a while back, it's inconsequential.

But they didn't? It was a 3mins trailer and if they didn't care about a related game that's not even 4 years old, why did they bother showing off an unrelated game that's 5+ years old?

The fact that you keep shifting to Uncharted just shows you have no point 😄 God of War has sold 20 million copies, has been given away for free, and you expect PS fans to care about it coming to PC when the sequel is coming up, why? 😎

@SolidGame_basic: You’re the one who brought up age and that it’s unimportant as a result. Uncharted is older and not related to GOW. Your response thus falls apart.

I personally find PC much more convenient for several reasons, but to each their own and I understand why some people feel the opposite of me.

Well, the PS brand is definitely being defined more by its exclusives going to PC and the fanbase being milked for 9th gen upgrades than an anticipated line-up of powerhouse exclusives. Any more news of PC ports would have over overshadowed hype building for next God of War.

And not like PC porting of Sony exclusives should be a bad thing, just that it's going to be difficult to work it into their normal showcase events.

@Juub1990: Uncharted also has a movie coming out so announcing that made sense. They also probably didnt want to steal any thunder away from Ragnaroks unveiling.

This makes sense. Hadn't thought about the movie honestly.

Probably. It would have been like when Bliz announced Diablo for mobile except with death threats to the developers.

Perhaps. I find it interesting how many people in this thread are arguing "oh it's because State of Play is only about PlayStation or Sony" - um, "playstation" and "sony" are "selling their game" so it seems to be perfectly State of Play relevant by your rules

Sony is all about the PlayStation brand on PS hardware, PC hardware or any other hardware they support. The days of PS hardware being their only focus is dead.

To an extent. While the ps hardware may not be Sony’s only focus anymore, it is still their primary focus.

3 or 5 years is highly unlikely and even 2 maybe a stretch with how Sony has been buying resources to make pc port

Still wouldn't have saved the worst show ever.
