So, you go through an exciting game and you're ready for the final challenge, only to find out... it was easier than you anticipate, possibly to the point of being underwhelming? My choices...

Bowser - Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2

What happened, Bowser? You were tougher than this in your older adventures from 8-bit to 64-bits. Now, the further you got into 3D, it feels like you just don't bother knowing Mario is going to kick your ass anyway. And the Galaxy games were the worst at showing that.

The Vizier - Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

You'd think there would be a bit more excitement and challenge between a wizard and a warrior prince. Nope! And with his only spell he uses a lot is... A CLONE! (The amount of Naruto jokes I had to refrain from in my recent playthrough on the PC version, given Yuri Lowenthal's voice role in this and how much the Vizier relies on clones) Besides that, blocking and hitting... and it really doesn't take much to beat him.

What are your choices?

Yea, Mario def comes to mind.

Picked up New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe and pretty sure a toddler would find those end encounters insulting.

Most of the 3D Zelda games have the same problem, every single room typically gives harts and the boss patterns are so simple that it might as well not have combat.

BOTW was better in that regard. Though weaken breaking was mostly annoying than some amazing "change your tactics" shit people like to spout.

Demon's Souls

To be fair Old King Allant is more of a lore boss and just flops around until you hit him a few times.

All uncharted bosses. The only one that gave me a bit of trouble was the boss from uncharted 2.

Mobile games sometimes have easy, or normal if I can say, boss. Pretty neat stuff.

BioShock still stands out in my mind as one of the worst final bosses, in both mechanics and difficulty, of all time.

Easily the final battle in Halo 4. I mean, what was that? It was literally a quick time event that lasted minutes. Horrible.

Most games. I’d say it’s often harder to find a final boss that is actually among one of the hardest segments in the game.

Like Tyrant in Resident Evil is a joke.

Found Uncharted 1 was fairly easy and played through the final boss on shadows of the tomb raider recently and found it a breeze on hard.

Plenty of JRPG final bosses, unless you're doing some low level run. If you've gone out of your way to build your party up and went around killing secret/super bosses, last boss is usually an autopilot encounter.

But Yu Yevon from FFX specifically, like wtf. So many ways to cheese this boss. But casting zombie on him, reversing the effect of curative options, then sit back and watch him try to cure himself? lol. Pretty sure you can just throw a phoenix down at him and he dies.

Fontaine from the first Bioshock, He was really easy and also anticlimactic, I would have preferred something scripted like with Andrey Ryan than that disappointing mess.

Yup, that too. Yojimbo, zombie, reflect, etc. seems SE just wanted this guy to be the biggest pushover ever.

As for JRPG final bosses in general. Never been a fan of level scaling in the broader sense, but always thought that at least the last boss should scale to your party once you reach a certain threshold of strength. Don't scale down for a weaker party, but start scaling up at a certain point for a strong one.

Always felt lame going around and maxing shit out, only to presented with a dud at the finale lol.

Fable 3, the whole game was a disappointment for me to be honest, so much hype and it was mindlessly easy, weak story and characters, when I finished the game I was surprised.. like “wait, it’s done??”

If you dont overlevel in JRPGs is pretty challenging but its a jrpg, big damage numbers is always beautiful to see. Story boses does suck then you overlevel hence why its important for dev to nail the secret boses. My only wish is they are not so obsecure to unlock.

Few jrpgs that scale like FF8, everyone just abuses the game and finish the game at lvl 1 with 99 all stat.

I've always hated bosses because they strip away everything that I usually like in a game. They lock you in an arena and expect you to take out the boss in exactly the way they want you to.

I recently did a play through of Return To Castle Wolfenstein on the hardest difficulty and the final boss is such an anti-climax. You basically just run around the edge of the arena taking out his armor with the sniper rife, then finish him off with the mini gun. I think he hit me once or twice, but that was it. The game is overall pretty awesome but that finale leaves a lot to be desired.

@magnum3000: although its a joke post and all is not end game boss but hidden or dlc except sekiro and demon souls, I do agree on nameless king. He actually has a very limited moveset. He is one of the boses I just blaze through on my ng pluses for the extra titanite slab.

Yea, pretty fucking disappointing.

Same with II, The Icon of Sin tries to barrage you with enemies, but it's so easy to just run past and ignore them all.

-

Halflife 2's ending is kinda shit as well, if you ignore the spectacle all you're doing is tossing a ball 3-4 times with the gunships just, something you can pretty much ignore regardless of difficulty.

And that's with an entire prolonged sequence prior where the player was running around with god-mode more or less.

Bowser's final boss battles are easy at times, especially if Mario fights him indirectly (e.g. Super Mario Galaxy 2). I think that the more challenging battles against Bowser are when Mario have to diretly fight him as was the case in Super Mario Odyssey.

Regardless of whether the Bowser final boss battles are easy or challenging, they show what an inept villain Bowser is. He is larger and stronger than Mario, but in every game, Mario will find some way to defeat Bowser.

Sooooo, you have great contenders like Fable 2 and Halo 4. Which you really can’t lose but the easiest final boss I’ve ever beaten....

Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark

There is an easy trick to basically win without doing a damn thing. Fits with the story and is still satisfying though. So much better than just wimpy bosses.

Yeah ... Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 had some really easy boss battles, they are fun, but easy.

Calamity Ganon was also kind of easy depending of how much progress you did or how much you were prepared, if you spent several hours in the game (and of course, most would) the final boss battle is easy.

Last, at the top of my head ... Soul of Cinder from Dark Souls 3... seriously, the twins were more of a challenge, the issue with Soul of Cinder is that he is so straightforward, not that many aces under the sleeve, i mean yeah, he can use several figthing styles, but if you know how to dodge and block, so easy. Thank God for Gael ... now that's a fight and a fitting ending to Dark Souls.

Final Fantasy VII - I beat Ruby Weapon and then Emerald Weapon, and then went to fight Sephiroth. Turns out I was too over-levelled for the final boss.

Final Fantasy X - Completed all the side-quests, and then went to fight the final boss. Once again turns out I was too over-levelled for the final boss.
