All stuff I agree with, I'm very eager for the game. Going to be the first console Mario Kart I actually buy and own.

And about the music, I remember a Kotaku editorial about a guy who sat in a press meeting with two of the Mario Kart representatives and a few other gaming journalists. Interesting that they keep promoting this and yet journalists don't seem to be promoting it like they want.

Ah yes, clearly, as video gamers, we care more about the hardware a game is on than the game itself.

I really despise Mario and the Mario Kart games, but that video actually made me want to get Mario Kart 8.

I think it's 1080p in singleplayer, but gets downgraded to 720p/60FPS for two player splitscreen, and finally 720p/30FPS for four player splitscreen.

That's what I'd say if I was a huge fan.

I own two Wii Us, but sadly I'm not into racers which include this beloved franchise. Something about going in circles on a track just doesn't get my goat, if you follow. I recognize others enjoy Mario Karting around the tracks though, but I'll be skipping this one until maybe the $20 price-point this time next year. I own almost all of these games, but after MK7 I just looked at myself and realized this series isn't for me.

I'm not here to Blue Shell the game though, so have fun getting excited for the latest Mario Kart installment.

Because unlike the other consoles, the Wii U is actually a real console. It doesn't have all the pay for online, mass advertising, lie about power, DRM bullshit of the PS4 and Xbox. You just turn it on and play some great exclusives. The Wii U is the one console PC gamers don't look down on.

These games never felt balanced to me.They always felt cheap and unfair.

It's way too busy, just another clusterfuck like double dash, plus the tires don't appear to be touching the ground. Nothing more than Mario kart wii, with an hd pixel count. Not worth wasting 300 on a console, even if they do a kart bundle.

I hate playing four player splitscreen on MK. Everything's harder to look.

Feels like getting over excited about Sonic and a sega. All Stars Racing Transformed. Good game, but, eh. Really not worth losing any sleep over.

This is where the Wii U's Power becomes a reall issue for me since the console can't run Local Multiplayer on multiple Tablet Controllers. Oh how I wish it had more power so that everybody could have their own screen yet still not have to play online, thats the dream. :D

Looks interesting and fun. Does it still have rubber band ai? Does it use the Wii U screen pad to interesting effect?

I agree a good game stuck on a horrible console.

Those are some good reasons to be excited about the game and it's really boosted my excitement, but there are 3 reasons I remain uninterested

-Blue Shell: devalidating your input in a video game since 1997

-Gliding: this is a mechanic that I felt lessened the enjoyment of the track designs. When you launch off a blue boost, the track becomes a simple straight away. It's far more interesting to stay on the ground handling twists and turns

-Coins: Because I'm not a fan of the rigged nature of the items in the races, I spend most of my time in the time trials of a Mario Kart game. However, in the last game and now this one, they brought coins back in. The problem with this is that the enjoyment of precisely hugging corners or improvising more interesting takes on a track are kind of thrown away in favour of following the path of coins they set for you to speed you up.

I remember seeing a GameSpot article that stated you can customize which items are on and off, including the blue shell, shortly after that last trailer was released.
