it feels like we need a new rating standard here

with all these bad reviews here at GS, they are starting to lose their credibility. Just off the top of my head:

mortal kombat movie given a 9/10

godzilla movie crapped on because it lacked "character development"

jack snyders justice league directors cut 3/10

a remake in demon souls 10/10 (sorry, remakes need to be automatically deducted score)

now this deathloop given a 10/10

I mean, if they're going to give deathloop a perfect 10, then I don't need to watch a 5 minute youtube clip of the atrocious AI being slapped while you walk right up to them.

Should we just use metacritic from now on?

The score increment should always be by 0.5. By 1.0 its been garbage since the change.

The rating on this site like many other sites should be read as entertainment and nothing more.

I think you only need 3 increments buy, rent, avoid.

why ? Isn't the whole point of the movie about a gorilla beating up godzilla? Do you need anything like character development, or even a real plot to begin with?

Just because the premise is simple action doesn't mean the movie has to suck. That's lazy. Look at Mad Max: Fury Road.

Look I feel this way any time a garbage Sony moviegame designed specifically for non-gamers gets anything over a 5. But I don't cry.

Use your God-given ability to think for yourself if a game is good or not, not let the mainstream (more likely "lamestream") gaming media decide for you.

nope, its been accumulating for a while. Maybe im wrong with this, but the AI does look bad from youtube videos, its actually comical. Anyways, its best to wait for metacritic ratings to get a better picture of this game.

I honestly don't put a lot of value into reviews anymore. I'll read it for a general overview of the product or major glitches/plot holes on release but as far as the personal opinion on the review, I'd prefer to judge it myself because my tastes are vastly different from the general consensus most of the time, especially with movies and games. Examples I can think of are Days Gone which scored a 6 and I loved it, and Marvel movies all get rave reviews and I think they're all recycled plots and fan service for kids.

I feel like since Kevin Van Ord left (around 2015 IIRC), this site has gone down the shitter in a hurry with first movies and shows being added to a site called GAMESPOT and then 10/10s and 9/10s just being handed out like nothing. I don't see reviewers being as critical as they used to be here so a lot of these new, young guys and gals are just really enamored and easily impressed a lot of the time. It's also really important for the staff here to mention politics and cherrypick which articles they feel are going to get lots of "hate" (criticism) so they can shut off the comments for them.

Because God forbid we can't have any criticism of anything here so that people can learn from their mistakes and get better at their criticism of these games....and now movies and shows lol.

Looks lems have gone crazy with the latest review for the ps5 . You would think they would be happy , since it’s a MS owned game studio that made a perfect 10/10 😅 game

Reminds me of an old quote from back in the day: If they were real journalists, they wouldn't be doing games journalism.

I used to like gamespot and IGN reviews the most for games but now gamespot is to hard. I have seen several games where the worst review score out there is by gamespot and IGN is hit or miss. I think meteritic is the best thing to really us because at the end of the day all reviews are is opinions only they might be a little better at explaining things than your average person. So the more opinions you get the better.

If you want a gaming journalism site that agrees with you 100% of the time you'd have to make it yourself.

Funnily enough the same people complaining about scores wouldn't be complaining if a certain game was exclusive.

Reviews that are not given by me are worthless. This has been proven over and over again.

This is what happens when you try to reduce paragraphs of multi-faceted opinions down to a single arbitrary number.

I've never taken these scores as anything other than a very broad summaries, and always read through the body of the reviews for specifics.

I modded here when Greg Kasavin used to run this place. It was the best gaming site on the internet.

Gamespot reviews used to be a huge thing when they were credible. Nobody was more respected. The forums were about 100 times more occupied as well.

Bayonetta 2 is the game that broke the scale.

Remember the days when only Metal Gear Solid 4, GTA IV and LoZ: Ocarina of Time scored 10/10 on both GS and IGN? those were the days when GS and IGN made sense.

@hardwenzen: 0.5 increments is pointless. If anything, the entire game critics media should just abandon the 10 scale and go down to a 5-star scale. That's how most other industries rate quality.

That's not only for SW. Fanboy wars is all over the place. All big reviewing sites benefit from it. If DF made video reviews while doing their analyses, they'd be milking ads to hell n back. Fanboy wars is massive on twitter lmao. That's where the 2010 SW is happening in 2021.
