This year's Call of Duty game is called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, according to reports and Eurogamer's own sources.

It's not to be confused with the first Modern Warfare, aka Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, released in 2007. Or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, released in 2016. Despite the name, it's very much a new game.

Twitter user LongSensation spilled the beans on the Modern Warfare moniker this afternoon. I've heard this name previously. Kotaku's Jason Schreier has also tweeted to say this is legit.

The fact 2019's Call of Duty is a new Modern Warfare game has been something of an open secret for a while. In some respects, it's a pretty obvious return.

This year's game is being made by Modern Warfare studio Infinity Ward, and no one was expecting a direct sequel to either of its previous entries, Ghosts (launched in 2013, and best remembered for its playable dog squad member Colin) and Infinite Warfare (2016, the one set in space everyone hated).

Former Call of Duty Modern Warfare developer Robert Bowling has also been making it fairly obvious.

Activision first showed Modern Warfare to a bunch of American footballers in March.

But let's be honest. Call of Duty always leaks. Every year.

Expect an official reveal on 30th May, sources have told Eurogamer.

Just recently watched a video on this and I’m interested in it. I still would have been interested in it if it was just Modern Warfare 4 as well though. I still very much enjoy the Call of Duty games myself and am looking forward to this one especially in that it will have a typical campaign mode in it.

In this Cold War scenario, Soviet Union, Warsaw pact, and China are going invade western europe, Yugoslavia and America.

With Trump selling weapons to the region, we can at least expect some genuine challenge from the enemies.

Could be clever marketing....that's the topic that was trending on Twitter yesterday for a moment, and all they had to do was use this name. In today's world to ability to be trending or go viral is very sought after.

In any case, I seriously doubt I will play this game. I enjoyed a few COD games in the past because of the story campaign and zombie mode, they have run their course for me.

That was so freaking epic i remember what a freaking great year 2013 was,there was a huge ass migration of lemmings who banish from here and alts started pouring left and right.

I don't know what was the worse part,MS riding COD exclusivity presentation as if it was a true exclusive,or Activision team trying to sell you the damn dog as some thing you care about..

I do feel microtransactions, timed exclusive DLC, day one DLC, lootboxes, season passes and the likes are rather creative.

Just a shame they couldn't put that kind of creativity forward when it comes to game design or gameplay.

Call of Duty is the name, you could literally put whatever the hell you want after. "Call of Duty: Future Perfect", etc. I think its clear they want things back when people loved CoD in Modern Warfare days, but why not just number it the next, what is it 4 or 5?

Maybe, just maybe, they breaking Modern Warfare off from the CoD line, and gonna use the term "Modern Warfare" in place of "call of duty". So it'd be "Modern Warfare: Future Perfect".

Well there’s only so much you can do within a genre such as arcade military FPS. But, I guess if you’re mocking them for being out of ideas, you must have some of your own that would fit the type of game they produce, right?

At a glance, appears they're trying to exploit their most successful COD. Maybe there will be something there worth playing. Not counting on it though since I haven't liked a COD game in years and don't even bother trying them anymore. But I am interested in seeing what they try coming up with.

FFS just kill the franchise and make a new series. It can even be like 80% similar just stop making CoD games.

Oh wait they won't because you folks on console buy what you're told and god forbid you DON'T buy a terrible game and don't play it with your friends.

Never stop being you. Walking into this thread was worth it if only for that picture and your initial statement.

Now 15 years from now when someone is all, "You remember that great Modern Warfare game we used to play?", everyone else will think they remember what he means. But they won't, really.
