Silent Hill 2 remake release date may have leaked!

As spotted by Twitter user ResiEvilCentral, Australian websiteGaming Gorillahas madeSilent Hill 2available for pre-order, at a cost of $89 AUS (about $60 US). However, the most interesting part about this listing is that it says the “expected release date” for the remake down as September 29, 2023.

Oh snap, if it’s really coming out this September, that would be a nice surprise. Didn’t think it would come out so soon.

The appearance of the system specs on the Steam store page already led me to believe that release wasn't that far off.

Besides, Bloober is crazy fast when it comes to making games.

Main dude's face bothers me a wee bit, but I'll look past it if the acting is good.

I don't expect this beat the original, of course. SH2 has one of, if not the most brilliant stories ever put in a video game. It's just on another level, way ahead of its time, to the point that developers still haven't caught up with that level of symbolic, semi-Jungian storytelling.

Sometimes game store dates are accurate. Can't wait to play it in Sept.

September is stacked with games. Not a good time to release.

I’m going to be way too busy in September with Starfield and Mortal Kombat 1 so this game will probably just get lost in the shuffle for me.

I'm skeptical about it too. There's just SOMETHING about the trailers that have me worried that the writers misunderstood SH2's plot.

Like, the way James looked into the mirror and ran his hand across his face. The original context behind that iconic scene was that James felt like he was in a dream - so that's why he was in that restroom to splash water on his face. His face said it all and that's why he looked so calm.

In the remake, we see a VERY scared James throughout every scene. And that kind of ruins the point of that restroom scene. This James isn't mentally disassociated from what's happening in that world - he feels everything. Which might be good for the scary parts of the game but it ruins the transient dream-like atmosphere that the original game had. Silent Hill is in a world between life and death and the remake just doesn't show any of that mysticism. I hope I'm wrong though.

I have no reason to believe this is accurate. Unless Sony has another event to show the game off and announce its release date between now and then, they'd of showed it off at their showcase a few weeks back.

Then again, despite utterly no reason to think this is accurate, I just gotta say, Blooper has a history off juggling projects and then releasing them close together, it usually results in both games coming out at the expense of each other when they do (The Medium and Observer Redux, Layers of Fear 2 and Blair Witch). If it were true, it wouldn't be a good thing. After all they have their Layers of Fears UE5 remake/remaster collection thing releasing in a few days. Based on the streak they're on their last 4 games, damn, maybe September isn't a bad guess.

They've been working on it for years. They just kept quiet about it.

SH2 was one of my favorite PS2 games. I would have more confidence in this remake if a different team was making it. I really do hope it turns out well though, I would love to revisit this game.

@nepu7supastar7: I’m kind of worried about the overall quality in general. Hopefully they’ll show some stuff soon. If not then that just kind of fuels my skepticism on it.

The quality is probably going to be great in terms of graphics, animation and music but I'm just saying that it might come off as a try-hard fan project where it matters most.

One of the things they bragged about was working with former members of Team Silent and one of those members stated that Blooper seemed obsessed with making it as accurate as possible. And to some of those extents, they were in places that would have been replaced with improvement. So take that as you will. I remember a fantastic story but as a game, SH2 was kinda mehhh....

Surprised it's not any closer to Alan Wake 2's release as I like to see two horror games competition from each other. But then again, too many games are releasing this October so glad they avoided Broketober.

Makes sense to me to bring a horror game out shortly before Holloween. 🤞

Wow if this true, Sony is having an awesome 2023 for sure .

I really want to be hyped about this, I just hope Bloober doesn't repeat the same mistakes they had with The Medium, it was an unoptimized mess full of crashes on PC.
