Silent Hill was scarier but Resident Evil overall juat more enjoyable. Fatal Frame games are nice in-between.

Having played both when they originally released the first 2 games in each franchise were on par with eachother in the horror elements,maybe SH just edging it in the scares/atmosphere department,but RE certainly won in the hype stakes those games were huge,enjoyed both

Silent Hill was really good at the unnerving and haunting kind of horror. Resident Evil is really good at the more action oriented and grotesque horror. Two kind of different subsets of horror in general. Resident Evil games are much better games overall.

Silent Hill has much better horror especially if you like the psychological type but as for gameplay RE is better.

Love movies like The Thing and Dawn Of The Dead. So easily Resident Evil.

But aren't really aiming for the same thing.

Silent Hill core concept is based on horror, RE is more of an action game with horror elements. So with some exceptions, Silent Hill always did horror better, but RE was more consistent in terms of quality.

I found Silent Hill to be a much more creepy game with better atmosphere and settings. Resident Evil 2 was amazing, but Silent Hill 2 was one of the creepiest games I remember playing as a young teenager.

Never liked SH. Maybe because only SL1 and 2 are the only good ones. I like RE a lot, but i can't stand the cheese, and would much prefer a serious game like TLOU1 and 2.

Callisto Protocol will trash both, tho.

Easily Resident Evil. Only Silent Hill 1 & 2 were really good. The quality of Resi games has been more consistent.

@hardwenzen: I didn't forget about you and your moronic RE posts, but ghosts is on another level. Hes been nonstop bashing re4 since the SOP, and now constantly bringing up that turd of a game alan wake. His hatred of the re series and bass man's hatred of handheld, it's well known. We might have common nft interests but he's triggered me multiple times with his salty takes on re4.

The only horror game from RE is 7 and maybe 8 as i havent played it yet. But since we are talking about horror, SH is leagues above it. But RE has better gameplay and feel more action type of game.

But the funny thing about this, however:

• Silent Hill - Better at making movies that follow the lore...sometimes.
• Resident Evil - Makes the worst movies despite they do bring in revenue but doesn't stick to the lore if ever.

@davillain: Haven't watched the Silent Hill movies. I'm guessing they're better than the trash Resident Evil movies? Yet that trash became the highest-grossing live-action game movie franchise... Sonic could surpass it after Sonic 3 movie.

I prefer Silent Hill because they feel more like horror games to me and can actually be unsettling at times. Resident Evil games are fun, but they are more arcadey and shoot em up feeling at times outside of the first 2 (which just happen to be my favorite games in the franchise).

RE7 started off as a good horror game until we got the blob creatures 😃

I've only played Resident Evil 1 and a demo of Silent Hill 2. Both are filled with scary moments and jump scares.

I vote Resident Evil because it's still on-going and gets mentioned a lot.
