SOCOM for PS5 in the works?

Rumors of aSOCOM PS5 gamehave reemerged after fans spotted the title in a late actor’s resume. David Veach, who passed away in January 2022 aged 54, apparently did motion capture work forSonyfor something called “SOCOM 111,” and it doesn’t look like he meant 2005’s PS2 game, SOCOM 3 U.S. Navy SEALs.

Guerrilla Games was reportedly working on a SOCOM PS5 game

Rumor of a new SOCOM game first emerged in 2019, when insider Tidux claimed that Guerrilla Games had been tapped for the task. They previously claimed in 2017 that Sony was looking for the right developer to bring the series back. Since Tidux isn’t necessarily reliable, the rumors were largely dismissed and forgotten about.

Fast forward to this weekend, when a Redditor discovered Veach’s resume, which is still up on Actors Access website at the time of this writing. Veach did motion capture work on something called “SOCOM 111,” which some say might be another way of writing SOCOM III or SOCOM 3. However, Veach is nowhere to be found in the game’s credits and none of his works listed on IMDB mention SOCOM.

The Actors Access resume, which we have seen ourselves, mention that Veach was a co-star on SOCOM 111. At the moment, we have no clue what this title is and whether it’s still in development or not.

Thoughts, SW? Are fans grasping for straws at this point? Will we ever get a new SOCOM? I would love to see Sony revisit the franchise. We need the Sony that used to give us their take on different genres and games. We need variety! Not just third person cinematic action adventure games lol.

Meh. Tried a couple times to get into the games but just never really cared for them myself. Don’t really have any interest in them trying to bring it back.

I loved SOCOM so would be nice if it was true but not holding my breath...this isn't the old Sony I remembered, that's for sure

GG is a good fit for the game, so i am interested.

I played the original demo as a kid for the first ps2 title, I struggled with it but I didn’t have the patience back then to play stealthy missions, I just wanted to run and gun everything, I think I’d enjoy it now especially an updated version.

Maybe it's one of those development hell live service games.

His role was "Australian Boat Captain", probably a minor role that they though wasn't worth crediting in Socom III:

I rather see a MAG 2 or a killzone 2 remake.

Don't you play with my emotions... I haven't read what you wrote yet, but I'm hoping this isn't the rumor from like 4 years ago... SOCOM is BY FAR the best shooting franchise of all time in my opinion and it isn't even close.

Edit: sounds fake... SOCOM 3... no thanks.. that is the 2nd worst game in the franchise behind 4.

Well, even if a rumor, it sort of puts forth a question: why haven't we had a SOCOM 3 yet?

There seems to be a lot of demand for it.

Maybe publishers don't like to pull games out of the mothball pile that the current generation of kids haven't played? SOCOM seems like something that was more for millenials and isn't "hip" or "current"?

Military shooter? Would it ever come back, it'd probably be a live service game where they want you to buy pink unicorn weapons and knitted hats for real money.

The modern military shooter audience has basically 0 oxygen available for any title that isn't COD or Battlefield.

I'm a fan but honestly Socom II was the peak and that was 21 years ago..

Alot has changed in gaming since then and I think time may have passed that IP by unfortunately.. Especially since I'd imagine Sony would want to bring it back as a live service game..

I would love to be proved wrong though..

I'd love to see Bungie go for narrative-driven co-op shooter like SOCOM.

I think there is plenty of room for a great single-player title with a solid multiplayer component.

The problem is publishers don't want to settle for that, they want their own COD/BF/etc....which is a ridiculous expectation.

Bungie is dead and washed up. I would like to see Guerilla Games or Insomniac do SOCOM.

For me, Socom FTB 2 for PSP is the game I've put the most into, ever. The online was amazing for its time. Overall, I'm not mad that Sony doesn't care for the franchise anymore, all they care about is CoD and nothing more.

While I was a big Socom player back in the day I don't think I could get back into those types of games anymore. I just don't have reliable free time to team up with others like I did. If Firewall couldn't draw me back I don't think anything else would.

While I would be interested in what Guerrilla Games would do, I would rather they try to create a new IP again; Horizon was a cool display of what they could do when they have some freedom in their game development.

@sonny2dap: I wouldn't mind a modern military shooter that's a little slowed down and more tactical. Whether or not modern kids would like it, I have no clue. But I do know that them trying to chase cod is what killed the last SOCOM. That and the network outage.

Just make a solid, round based, one life shooter, with good mechanics and cool maps. And don't try to emulate cod or battlefield. We already have those, so they need to do something different. I don't really care for the modern Battlefront games, but I think the dense foliage and feel of that engine might work well for this.

All of that said, I doubt we'll ever get a new SOCOM.

I really hope Bungie snaps out of their GaaS mess and Sony gives them the greenlight to revive one of the old FPS franchises.

be it SOCOM, Resistance, Killzone, BLACK, or whatever else out there, I think if any of the original Halo trilogy + Reach talent from Bungie is still working it could be great.

I hope Destiny dies soon.

Either of those would be GREAT.
